Mrs. Debra L. Jones

JONES, Mrs. Debra L. - Age 58, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at McLaren-Flint, surrounded by her family. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries, 2430 Dutcher Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Apostle Lonnie Brown officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 5-7 p.m. Friday with family present. Ms. Debra Jones was born on June 25, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Sterlene Jones and Ossie Jones. Those who were touched by her knew well of her giving spirit, beautiful smile, sense of humor, charm, quick wit, and her strong work ethic. A long time Flint resident, Debra graduated from Northwestern High School. While attending Mott Community College she completed coursework in paralegal studies. Debra worked at the Urban League of Flint as an office manager and worksite manager where she retired. From there she went on to become a legal secretary for the Genesee County Prosecutor Attorney’s Office where she was employed for the past 20 years. She took great pride in her work and became a member of the Genesee County Bar Association Affiliates. Debra highly valued her relationship with God and was a faithful member of Kingdom of Heaven Ministries, and a supporter of Pentecostal Temple of Flint, MI. Debra's pride and joy were her two special children LaTonya (David) Demps and Lamont Lloyd, who have accomplished many personal and professional goals due to her loving dedication and unwavering support. Debra had many interests and pastimes. She was a big lover of sports; she enjoyed watching movies, and took great delight in her time as a jewelry consultant. However, she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones above anything else. Debra valued helping others and would happily offer resources and support to anyone in need. She dedicated herself and her life to charity and to the service to others. Debra lived her life with the principles of service, love, grace, and mercy. She will be deeply missed and her memory will be treasured by all who knew her. She also leaves to cherish her memory; two special children, LaTonya (David) Demps and Lamont Lloyd; siblings, Ossie (Bessie) Jones Jr, Ricky Jones, Sharon Jones, and Adrienne Jones. Additionally special cousin, best friend, and life sister, Carolyn Wells; a host of nieces, and nephews including special niece, Lynnae Jones and special nephew, Dexter Herron; and a host of great nieces and nephews including special great nieces, Aianna Jones and Sterlene Jones II; a host of beloved cousins including special cousins, George Grundy, Brian Grundy, Veronica Hill, all of Flint, MI and Benny Grundy of Brookings, OR; a multitude of dear friends including special friend, Susan Hopkins and friends at the 68th District Court including close friends Ann Williams, Carolyn Evans, Suzette Hawkins, and Kelly McWhirter. Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Ossie and Sterlene Jones; brother, Robert Union, and many beloved aunts and uncles including Aunt Frances Grundy, Uncle Eric and Walter Jamerson Sr. and cousin Andrew Grundy. The family would like to thank her church family at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries and Pastor Lonnie Brown, Pentecostal Temple, and her dear friends at the 68th District Court.
