JOHNSON, Dea. Ernest D., Sr., "Pete" - Age 84, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Dr. Paul Musson officiating, Min. Tommie Chaney presiding. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Dea. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday. Deacon Ernest “Pete” Johnson, Sr. was born January 20, 1927 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Ernest G. and Ernestine Allen Johnson. “Pete” graduated from Flint Central High School. He retired from Chevrolet Manufacturing, a division of General Motors, after 35 years of working as a salary employee. “Pete” was a Deacon and faithful member of Eternal Life Seventh-Day Adventist Church until his health began to fail him. He also was a Lifetime Member of the Greater Flint Afro American Hall of Fame, Charter Member of the Vehicle City Golf Club, and played with various groups throughout the city. As you can tell he was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends just talking. Deacon Johnson leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 21 years, Mary Coleman-Johnson; daughter, Angela (Marvin) Hughes of Mississippi; son, James (Jeanine) Franklin III of Flint; grandchildren, Rhonda and Ernest Johnson, Kristen McNeal, Jenae and James Franklin IV, all of Flint and Marvin Hughes of Mississippi; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Theodore (Vicki) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Frankie Johnson of California; special nieces, Lydia “Renee” James and Margaret (Min. Tommie) Chaney; special cousins, Sam and Judy Key; special friends, Sylvester Moore, John Johnson, Berlin Dobson, James A. Sharp, Jr., Marty Tapscott and Gail Edwards; a host of other relatives and friends. Deacon Johnson was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Batson; son, Ernest Jr.; parents, Ernest G. and Ernestine Johnson; 4 brothers; and 4 sisters. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Musson and the Eternal Life Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pastor Carlos Williams and the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, Dr. Rizwan Danish and the staff of Avalon Hospice.
