McNEAL, Deacon Harris G., Sr. – Age 77, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family Hour 10AM Friday, March 27, 2009 at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave., with funeral services commencing at 11AM, Rev. Rodney Ellison officiating Dr. Herbert B. Dixson, Pastor. Interment New Mt. Zion Cemetery, Troy, Alabama. Family and Friends will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Deacon Harris will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3PM-8PM Thursday. Deacon Harris G. McNeal, Sr. was born October 30, 1931 in Troy, Alabama, the son of the late William and Annie Lue McNeal. His family and friends affectionately called him “Dudley” or “Mack”. Mr. McNeal received his education from the Pike County School System in Troy, Alabama after which, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was Honorably Discharged November 1, 1952. Harris returned to Troy, AL where he owned and operated a cab service for approximately two years. He then relocated to Michigan and became employed by General Motors where he retired after 30 years of service. He was an active and devoted member of Mt. Zion M.B.C. for 40 years where he currently served as a Deacon. “Mack” had a passionate love for fishing and hunting. Deacon Harris G. McNeal, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: children, Olita M. Williams of Detroit, MI, Harris Jr. (Sarnia) McNeal, William McNeal all of Decatur, GA and Deidra (Eugene) Roriex of Flint; six grandchildren, Simonee’ A. Williams, Harris (Deidre) McNeal, Shelita L. McNeal, Anthony Cheatham, Monica N. McNeal and William R. McNeal II; nine great-grandchildren: Olita C. Williams, Derrick K. Robinson-Hardy, Tonea McNeal; Martrell McNeal, DeAire Harris, DeKyra Harris, Haadiya McNeal, Siddeeq McNeal and Naandi McNeal; three sisters, Mary (L.C.) Townsend, Mariah (James) McKinney and Bertha McBride; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Mitchell and Ruby McNeal; daughter-in-law, Veronica A. McNeal; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Juanita Bell, Matthew McEwen, William Holden, Eddie Booth, Ron Hudson, Dorothy Robinson and James Seales. Deacon McNeal was preceded in death by his wife, Edith P. McNeal; and brothers, William and Eddie McNeal. The family wishes to express special thanks to Juanita Bell, Bishop Herbert B. Dixson and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Family, Hurley Medical Center ER staff especially Dr. Jaggi and CCU nurses, Sarah, Michael and Diane.
