Dea. Lee Stallings,

STALLINGS, Dea. Roger Lee, Sr. - Age 71, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2005 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, June 25, 2005 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Eld. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Dea. Stallings will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Deacon Roger L. Stallings, Sr. was born November 16, 1933 in Starkville, Mississippi the son of Fred and Logensie (Malone) Stallings. He confessed Christ at an early age. Roger was a resident of Flint for 53 years. He was employed at Buick, a division of General Motors Corporation for 44 years and was a member of UAW Local #599, before retiring in 1996. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 and was honorably discharged. Dea. Stallings was a member of House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church and faithfully served as Deacon and Trustee until his illness and death. He was a former member of the Southern Gentlemens' Club. Dea. Stallings was a father figure to the children of the neighborhood who named him "Smooth". In his earlier years he excelled in baseball and basketball. Dea. Stallings was married to his faithful and devoted wife Lilly M. (Tartt) Stallings for 50 years. They would have celebrated 51 years of marriage on July 2, 2005. From this union, they were blessed with 6 children. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed life and family. Dea. Stallings had a great life, which he lived to the fullest. Dea. Stallings leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Lilly M. Stallings of Flint; children, Deborah (James) Hemphill, Karen (Raymond) Felder, Roger, Jr., Vincent (special friend, Kaye Rogers) Stallings, Reginald (Lisa) Stallings, and Clinton Covert; grandchildren, Kevin (LaRhonda), Altura, Darian and Jamil Stallings, Te?sah Hemphill, Tremaine Felder, Karin Hemphill and Reginald Stallings, II, Wendell and Michelle Counts and Carlos Covert; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; Ollie Mae Deloach, Dora Ann Tate and Annie Stallings; brother, William (Lelia) Stallings; 4 nieces; 4 nephews; aunt, Minnie Stallings; special cousins, Clinton Reaves and Annie Thompson. Dea. Roger L. Stallings, Sr. was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Stallings; parents, Fred and Logensie Stallings; grandparents; father and mother-in-law, Amos Tartt and Carrie McIntyre. The family would like to express special thanks to Avalon Hospice Staff for their excellent care of Dea. Stallings, the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church family and all the friends who visited him during his illness.
