HORNADAY, Pastor David D. - Age 59, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie, with funeral service 11a.m. Pastor Shawn Thomas officiating. Pastor Charles E. Roots, Host Pastor. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10a.m. Thursday. Pastor Hornaday will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3p.m.-8p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6p.m.-8p.m. Pastor David D. Hornaday was born February 15, 1953, in Marion, Indiana to Vearl and Virginia (Small) Hornaday. “Dave”, as he was so fondly called was the eleventh of fourteen children. Pastor Hornaday accepted Christ at a very early age at Second Baptist Church in Marion, Indiana. Pastor Hornaday married his childhood sweetheart Blanche Weaver November 6, 1971. He retired from AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors after 17 years of service, to pursue his love of music, which led him to start his own business, Hornaday Music, Inc., in 1990, until the Lord called him to preach His word. During his career as an anointed musician, Pastor Hornaday had the opportunity to minister through his music at churches throughout Indiana and Michigan. He studied music at the University of Michigan, Mott Community College and throughout Europe. Pastor Hornaday was not selfish with his God given gift. Dave was an inspiration to many people. In 1994, he became the proud Pastor of Calvary Life and Praise Church, until his health would no longer allow him to preach God’s word, at which time his sister, Pastor Gladys Sheron took over as Pastor Interim. Pastor Hornaday leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife of 41 years, Blanche Hornaday; three devoted children, David II, Tomeko, and Tiffany Hornaday, all of Flint. He also leaves to cherish four grandchildren, whom he loved very much, Dajuan, Donovan, Daja and Dana Hornaday; one great grandson, Dahlon Hornaday; two sisters, Evangelist Mearl Marks of Atlanta, GA, Pastor Gladys Sheron of Davidson, MI; nine brothers, Elder James (Wallie) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Minister Jerry Sr. (Dorothy) of St. Louis, MO, Minister Larry Sr. (Janice) of Marion, IN, Elder John Sr. (Sylvia) of St. Louis, MO, DaFir Walikram of Riverside, CA, Minister Paul (Lechele) of Tulsa, OK, Darrell (Cheryl), Bishop Charles (Mary), all of Las Vegas, NV, Minister Edward (Charon) of Flint; sister-in-laws, Joyce Webb (Clarence Yancy), Linda Sue Cook, all of Flint; brother-in-law, John Jr. (Belinda) of Ft. Wayne, IN; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his church family Calvary Life and Praise Church and his many dear friends including Missionary Ivrie Hamilton and Lena Mosley. Pastor Hornaday was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vearl and William Hornaday. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Charles E. Roots and the Canaan Baptist Church, Elder A. Jeffery LaValley, Reverend Shawn Thomas, nurses, Alana and Angeline, and the workers of STATS EMS.
