COOK, Rev. David George Jr. - Age 58, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in Hazel Park, MI. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, November 5, 2022 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:30 PM. Rev. Cook will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon funeral home and may be viewed Friday, November 4, 2022 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Rev. David George Cook Jr. was born December 6, 1963 in Dallas County, Selma, Alabama, the son of the late Deacon David G. Sr. and Delois Marie (Thomas) Cook. David confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined Zion Hill Bible under the leadership of the late Rev. James R. Thomas in Flint, Michigan. In 1986, he was installed as Pastor of Zion Hill Bible Church and the name was later changed to Greater Zion Hill Bible Church. On May 23, 1996, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Veattia C. Johnson and from this union a wonderful blended family was formed of sons and daughters. He was the founder of New Hope Word of Life, which he was so proud of doing. After moving to Hazel Park, Michigan, he joined Temple of St. Jude. He was on the Ministerial Board and at one point on the Men’s Board of Metropolitan Spiritual Church, which he was still affiliated with. His favorite scriptures were, 91st Psalm and 23rd Psalm (go ahead, read them for yourself). Rev. David G. Cook Jr. joined the United States Army in 1982 and was Honorably Discharged. He was employed at General Motors Corporation for over 39 years and was a member of UAW Local #14. David received his Theological Degree from Evangelical Theological Seminary and his Associate Degree in Small Engine Repair from Davenport College. He was very athletic in his “Hey-Day.” David was involved in several team sports, football, baseball, wrestling, swimming and he was one of the fastest runners around on his track team. His hobbies and interests were for the young at heart, they included, woodcarving, camping, playing horseshoes and fishing. These he loved to do with his father and his brothers, as well as playing pool, bowling and checkers. But that’s not all, he loved cooking, playing Scrabble, watching Jeopardy and his most favorite life long show the cartoon, Conjunction Junction What’s Your Function. David was caring and compassionate almost to a fault. He became a foster parent and then an adoptive parent which included a few special needs children 21 years ago. Outstanding Man of God, Greatest Big Brother Ever to his siblings, Grandfather of the Year consistently, a Doting Father, Loving and Devoted Husband. He gathered his wings and took flight on October 25, 2022. Rev. David G. Cook Jr. leaves to cherish sweet memories: wife, Veattia Cook; 4 sons, James N. Cook, Datwan M. Cook, all of Flint, Walter Cook of Hazel Park, MI, and Alonzo (Brianna) Johnson Jr. of Ferndale, MI; 4 daughters, Deja Johnson of South Bend, IN, Morgan Cook, Isabel Cook, both of Hazel Park, MI and RaShonia Johnson of Detroit, MI; 15 grandchildren, MyAsia Cook, TaNasjia Cook, Erian Cook, Jamylah Cook, Eric Cook, Alex Cook, Joushua Cook, Gabriel Cook, Khyree Johnson, Contressa House, Tamia Coleman, Abigail Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Alonzo Johnson III, and Wayneisha Davis; 5 great-grandchildren, Azaria Williams, Maiquan Williams, Amiyah McCain, Devon McCain and Monte Jr.; sister, Delois (Timothy) Gill of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 brothers, Charles (Sherrie) Cook of Southfield, MI and Gregory (Tanya) Cook of Richmond, VA; 5 nieces, Stevenie (Walter) Whidbee of Grand Blanc, MI, Stefenie Banks of Hazel Park, MI, Nicole (Trevon) Hartfield, Irreona Byrd of Flint and Summer Curtis of Concord, NC; 6 nephews, Londel Cook of Saginaw, MI, Jeharold Cook, Perrien Cox, both of Flint, Dominique (Denecia) Prince of Grand Blanc, MI, Gregory Cook Jr. of Norfolk, VA and Jalen Cook of Raleigh, NC; 2 great-nieces, Promise Golden of Flint and LonDin Boyce of Cordova, TN; 2 great-nephews, Jaiden Speights of Grand Blanc, MI and Elijah Revell of Concord, NC; 4 aunts, Idora Chambers of Flint, Willie Lee (Robert) Savage of Cleveland, OH, Jessie Cook of Selma, AL and Annie Cook of Cincinnati, OH; 2 uncles, Daniel (Rosa Jean) Cook of Huntsville, AL and Andrew (Theresa) Thomas Jr. of Cleveland, OH; a host of cousins; mother-in-law, Joann Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; 7 sisters-in-law, Myrtle Lynch of Stanford, VA, Carrie (James) Evans, Doris Price, Sylvia (Keith) Johnson, Kay Venable, Andrea Armstrong, and Clyneese Berry, all of Indianapolis, IN; a host of other relatives and friends.
