BOWIE, Mother Darresia - Age 80, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Heritage Manor. Funeral Service 2PM-4PM Friday, September 11, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 2PM Friday. Mother Bowie will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mother Darresia Bowie was born on February 7, 1929 in Leake County, Mississippi, the daughter of William and Olar Morgan. Mother Bowie was the oldest of three children, affectionately referred to as “Reesie”. She was baptized at Harmony Missionary Baptist church in Lena, Mississippi at an early age. Mother Bowie was presently a member of Pleasant Love Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Leake County Agricultural High School “Class of 1948”. Mother Bowie attended Jackson State University majoring in Elementary Education. She later met and married George Bowie, Jr. in 1949, to this union 7 children were born, 3 daughters and 4 sons. Mother Bowie worked for the Flint Board of Education, retiring after completing over 20 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Michelle (Gregory) Brock of Grand Blanc, MI and Jada Bowie of Flint; 3 sons, Dwaine (Sandra) Bowie of Valparaisa, IN, Kenneth Bowie and Stanley Riggs, all of Flint; 9 grandchildren, Chris and Courtney Pendleton of Phoenix, AZ, Carol and Carmella Brock of Grand Blanc, MI, Ashlee Arder of Ann Arbor, MI, Morgan Bowie of Valparaiso, IN, Kenneth Bowie, Jr., of Westland, MI, Jordan and Jakobe Bowie and Shelton Brock, all of Flint; great grandchild, Tony Brock Wells; several nieces, nephews and cousins; 2 aunts, Addie Lee Morgan of Lena, MS and Annie B. “Tot” Stewart of Denver, CO; 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ware of Chicago, Il and Myrtle Bowie of Ludlow, MS; 2 brothers-in-law, Lonzo Bowie of Ludlow, MS and Leroy Bowie of Forest, MS. Mother Bowie was preceded in death by her husband, George Bowie, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Bowie; sons, Terry Wayne Bowie and Gregory Bowie; parents, William and Olar Morgan; granddaughter, Alexis Bowie; sister, Ruby Lee Rushing; brother, Freddie Lee Morgan; and brother-in-law, Olen D. Rushing.
