Mr. Darion Earnest Pouncy

POUNCY, Mr. Darion Earnest - Age 45, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church 424 E. Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM, Pastor Jevon Catlett, officiating, Rev. Ronald Wilson, Eulogist. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Pouncy will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM with family present to receive friends from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday. Mr. Darion Earnest Pouncy (affectionately known as D. Pounce) was born in Flint, Michigan on March 14, 1973, during a snow storm. At 45 years of age, on November 8, 2018, Darion passed peacefully into eternal life, at McLaren Medical Center in Flint, and the very next day, the snow fell again. Darion accepted Christ and was Baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Flint. Darion was the middle child and only son. Surrounded by sisters on each side, he thought it would be best to keep calm, quiet and cool. He created many childhood memories of riding bikes around the neighborhood with friends and as he got older those bikes became mopeds. Darion stayed active in the Flint Community Schools and was involved in activities such as Boy Scouts, marching band, football, basketball, soccer, bowling and badminton. He was academically talented and participated in the Math and Science Magnet Programs and a Summer Science Program at Michigan State University. Darion graduated with honors from Flint Central High School in 1991. While there, he was a member of Gamma Delta Kudos where he participated in community service and character building activities. Darion lived with a smile on his face and was caring and humble. He was described as a “Good Man” by many of his friends and co-workers. He held leadership positions for several years and became a Manufacturing Supervisor at Mann & Hummell in Portage, Michigan. He worked hard at his job and was surrounded by friends. In 2017, he was presented with the Mann & Hummell Filter Award for Teamwork. Darion enjoyed living and working in Kalamazoo and Portage. He moved to the area to attend Western Michigan University and later received an Associate Degree from Kalamazoo Community College in 1997. He went on to earn a B.S. Degree in Management from Davenport University in 2004. In his free time, Darion loved listening to music and watching movies. He was a great companion to his dog, Oscar, who faithfully stayed by his side. Darion was an avid sports fan, especially for MSU and the San Antonio Spurs, David Robinson was his favorite player. He was always sure to schedule his work vacations for March Madness games. He liked keeping up with his family and friends from childhood, college, Facebook and work. Darion leaves to cherish his memory: his parents, Nancy and Earnest Pouncy; sisters, Margot (Daryl) Gilliam of Farmington Hills, MI and Kristala (Dr. Ashley) Smart of Cambridge, MA; his fiancé, Evelyn Dezoete of Portage, MI; nieces, Morgan and Marlise Gilliam; nephews, Lawrence Gilliam, Emery and Ellison Smart; and god daughter, Deja Evans; a host of aunts , uncles, other relatives and loved ones. Mr. Pouncy was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Claudie B. and Dave R. Pouncy, Iota and Earl Payne; aunts; uncles; other relatives and his beloved dog, Oscar. Thanks for the many Prayers, phone calls, visits with Darion, the care package, cards, MSU gifts, balloons, etc. Darion’s smiles showed how much he appreciated each act of kindness.
