BRIGGS, Ms. Cynthia Lynn- age 49, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Eld. David Eichelburger officiating. Interment Spring Hill A.M.E. Church-Cemetery, Summerton, SC. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Monday. Ms. Briggs will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Mrs. Cynthia L. Briggs was born July 1, 1964 in Miami, FL, the daughter of Melvin Hemmell and Suester Gipson. Ms. Briggs had five sisters and two brothers. She graduated from Jane Adams High School in Bronx, New York. She received the Lord as her personal savior at a very young age at the guidance of her grandmother. Ms. Briggs was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. She was employed by the state of Michigan Corrections, devoting her time to the Michigan Department of Corrections Saginaw Correction Facility, until serving at the Lapeer Corrections Facility for more than 11 years. She was an Eastern Star as she resided in the city of Flint. Her past employment included: Hurley Medical Center, WDZZ, University of Michigan-Flint, as well as the YWCA Women’s Shelter were as she was loved by many. Cynthia met Mr. Kirk Briggs as they both served in the United States Military and were later united in marriage in October of 1983. She birth two children who later served in the United States Army. She was a person who loved reading the word of God and her life reflected as such. Ms. Briggs was an individual who always supported and cared for others. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, and shopping. She always stood for what was right. Ms. Briggs leaves to cherish her memories and legacy: her husband, Kirk Briggs; daughter, Kirklynn Briggs of Flint; son, Rashiem Briggs of Flint; 2 brothers, Anthony Vlanding, and Cennetta Gipson both of New York, NY; 3 sisters, Annie (Reynaldo) Bryan, Sandra (Frank) Gipson, and Michell all of New York; grandson, Jamier Briggs of Dallas, TX; very special aunt, Phoha Johnson of South Carolina; cousin, Frankie Johnson of South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as very close and special friends. Ms. Cynthia Lynn Briggs was preceded in death by: her parents, Melvin Hemmell and Suester Gipson; her dear grandmother; and 2 sisters. The family would like to give special thanks to: Nurse Brandie at McLaren ER, aunt Jewel, Jacoby (Janaya) Brandon, Akilah, Ms. Jerri, and Ms. Darleen.
