STEELE, Mr. Curtis, Sr. "Pa-Pa" - Age 79, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 12Noon Friday, June 18, 2010 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 1 p.m., Bishop Odis A. Floyd officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Friday. Mr. Steele will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Curtis Steele, Sr. was born June 9, 1931 in Springhill, Louisiana, the son of Sammie and Annie Lee Steele. He was a resident of Flint for 58 years. Mr. Steele was a member of New Jerusalem FGBC. He retired from Buick, after 26 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 599. Mr. Steele was a man among men, who enjoyed checkers, gardening, hunting and fishing with special son-law, Terry Rawls. He also enjoyed and loved helping raise his children and grandchildren up to the last great-grandchild, Daniel Curtis Steele. Mr. Steele was the entrepreneur and proprietor of Bill’s Tasty Turkey and Ribs. He was very wise and enjoyed giving advice. Mr. Curtis Steele, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: loving, caring wife of 61 years, Vivian Steele; 6 daughters, Carolyn (Rev. Terry) Davis, Vivian Jones, Janice Steele-Anderson, Linda (Edward) Wright, Marilyn (William) Orr and Patricia (Terry) Rawls; 2 sons, Curtis Steele, Jr. and Robert Earl (Cocoa) Steele, all of Flint; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Sanders of Grand Rapids, MI and Stella Williams of Saginaw, MI; 2 brothers, L.C. (Helen) Steele of Saginaw, MI and Joe (Sharon) Harris of Little Rock, AR; a host of nieces and nephews including special nephew, Curtis Newell of Torrance, CA; aunt, Laura Kitchen of Muskegon, MI; 5 sisters-in-law, Robertine Williams, Mildred (Frank) Woods, all of Detroit, MI, Cora Steele of Los Angeles, CA, Bessie Steele of Flint and Francis Cook of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Robert Earl (Marilyn) Day of Detroit, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including, the Avery, Brooks, Harper, Motley, Rawls, Stinson, Wilson and Vines families, Ulyess (Sue) White, Sandra Wilson, Barry and Wallette Williams, Mrs. John Ruffin, Attorney David Grant, Attorney Robbins Graham, Pastor Peggy McIntosh of Detroit, MI, Justice Thigpen, Home Street Hasselbring Crew, the Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana families. Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Steele; mother and stepfather, Annie Lee (Elbert) Barber; 2 grandchildren, Michelle Steele and Shavaunte Pippins; 7 brothers; and 1 sister.
