MARTHREL, Mr. Curtis A. - Age 41, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Henry Ford Hospital. Family hour 12Noon Monday, June 13, 2011 at Church Without Walls Ministries, 6202 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 1 p.m. Pastor Martez Warren officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Monday. Mr. Marthrel will in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Curtis Armondus Marthrel was born into his earthly life on October 1, 1969 in Flint, Michigan, to the union of Curtis and Carrie Marthrel. Later in life he was raised in the union of Luther H. and Carrie M. Henry. Curtis was preceded in death by his step-father, Luther Henry and father Curtis Marthrel. While growing up on McClellan Street his family and friends knew him as “Stink” and “Fat Boy.” Curtis graduated from Flint Central High School, “Class of 1988.” He was on the varsity football and wrestling teams during his four years there. As a teenager he got his first paying job at Hinky Dinky grocery store as a butcher in Flint. Curtis also worked for Continental Airport in Hawaii as a baggage handler. He was a member of Church Without Walls Ministries, where he helped out wherever he was needed. Curtis was asked to serve on the Usher Board and did so with joy and pleasure until his passing. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Cheryl Ann Green. No children were born to this union but two step-daughters, Sucora (Morgan) West and Kiara Pollard, both of Flint. Mr. Curtis A. Marthrel leaves to mourn his passing; 3 grandchildren; mother, Carrie M. Henry, of Flint; two brothers, Byron L. Sanders of Philadelphia, PA and Vernon L. Marthrel of Flint; sister, LuKena F. Carter; niece, Aaliyah A. Carter, both of Oklahoma City, OK; two uncles, Jones A. Henry of Flint and Robert Marthrel of Missouri City, TX; five aunts, Mary Butler and Frances Hughes both of St. Louis, MO, Katie Brown of Shreveport, LA, Kathleen Jones of Detroit, MI and Diane Crawford of Flint; special cousins, Tawana Bingham, Marvin Jones, Wayne Shaw, Wanda Marthrel and Isaac Crawford; god-daughter, Monique Miller; god-brother, Sarone Harvey; special friends, LaShonia Miller, David Sumrall, Marco Morris, Darren Lawrence, Eric Tillman and Neal Talley. The family would like to give special thanks to the Oncology Department and Intensive Care Unit at both Henry Ford and Hurley Medical Center, Nehemiah Baptist Church, the Washington Family, both of Oklahoma City, OK, DaVita Dialysis, Dr. Osama and Dr. Saeed, Pastor Martez Warren and the Church Without Walls Ministries, Pastor Carlos D. Williams and the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, Pastor Allen Overton and the Second Baptist Church, Great Lakes District Hostesses and Rev. John Randolph.
