Cornelius Hardy

HARDY, Mr. Cornelius E. - Age 69, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 12Noon Monday, February 21, 2011 at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, 502 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 1 p.m. Pastor Chester Payton officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Monday. Mr. Hardy will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrenc E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and ay be viewd from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Cornelius E. Hardy was born July 31, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Edward and Hattie Hardy. Cornelius was a graduate of Flint Northern High School. He later joined the United States Army, serving 3 years and was Honorably Discharged. Cornelius gained employment at a young age at St. John Meat Market. He later met and married Charatie Lee Marshall, from this marriage three daughters and two prior daughters was born. Cornelius later was employed with General Motors Power Train for 38 years. He joined Second Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late great Rev. Anderson Fields. Cornelius, with the help of his mentored godfather, the late Deacon Landers Pruitt, he became a devoted Deacon. He later joined the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church until his death. Cornelius enjoyed watching television in his favorite chair. His favorite shows were Gunsmoke and the Detroit Tigers. Mr. Cornelius E. Hardy leaves to cherish his memory: 4 daughters, Diane, Patricia, Iretta and Charlene; 2 godsons, Craig Atkinson and John Love; although he did not have any sons he raised 2 of his grandsons as his own, Tremaine Shipp and Timothy Rice; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother, James Nelson; 6 nieces; 5 great nieces; 1 nephew; 6 great-nephews, all of Flint; 3 sisters-in-law, Luanner Taylor of Greenwood, MS, Delorse Shipp and Joyce Ann Shipp, both of Chicago, IL; 6 brothers-in-law, Chester Shipp, Roosevelt (Velvetta) Shipp, Peter (Alberta) Shipp, Micheal (Erin) Shipp, Billy Shipp, all of Chicago, IL and Louis Triplett, Sr. of Boston, MA; a host of other relatives and friends including his favorite cook, Sis. Bernice Brooks, friends, Bro. Alvin Pollard, Bro. Aaron Flood, Bro. Walt Collins and his barber and spiritual advisor, Pastor Jesse Wilson. Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his wife, Charatie L. Hardy; daughter, Joyce Ann Norris; father, Edward Hardy; mother; stepmother, Hattie Hardy; 2 sisters; and 1 brother. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Robert House, Dr. S. Sahouri and nurses, nurse, Shannon, McLaren Regional Center 5th floor ICU and 6th floor progressive care and Pastor Chester Payton and the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church family.
