WILLIAMS, Mrs. Cora Lee - Age 101, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at Willowbrook Manor. Family hour 11AM Saturday, October 6, 2018 from True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 6917 Dr. M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12PM. Rev. Robert Rushing, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mrs. Williams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 12PM-8PM Friday with family present to receive friends 5PM-8PM. Mrs. Cora Lee Williams, the daughter of the late Choicie Perry and Gus Kennedy, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Willowbrook Manor in Flint, Mi at the age of 101. Cora Lee Williams was born April 29, 1917 in Lena, Mississippi. She was a member of Halls Chapel in Flora, MS and accepted Christ at an early age. Cora was the devoted wife of the late Deacon Ruben Williams affectionately known as “Papa Rube” who preceded her in death in 1985. They settled in Bolton, MS in the late 50’s where they raised their family of eight. They were blessed with a marriage that lasted 46 years. After the passing of “Papa Rube” she relocated to Flint, Michigan, where she became a faithful member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Marcellus Burkett. Cora was a Mother of the church and served on the Mother Board as well as the Mission Society. She loved to sew and her handmade quilts will be a treasured keepsake for those fortunate enough to own one. Cora also loved to garden, whether it be flowers, vegetables or fruits. Her homemade meals were the highlight of the day and all was welcomed to partake. Mrs. Cora Lee Williams was a resident at Willowbrook Manor for 21 years and she made sure that everyone knew that she was the Boss. She loved to work Find The Words puzzles, play Bingo and interact with the other residents. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Mrs. Cora Lee Williams was the Matriarch of a very unique family which spanned 6 generations. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her: daughter, Doris Williams of Washington, DC; sons, Percy Williams and James (Pat) Williams, all of Flint; sister, Wyonnie Felder of Detroit, MI; brother, Rev. Billie Kennedy of Lena, MS; 27 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; 88 great-great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her children, Rufus Williams and Willie Moore (1970); daughters-in-law, Eloise Moore (2006), Nettie Jean Perry (1993) and Angeline Brown (2018); son-in-law, Albert Brown (2018); sisters, Annie L. Thompson (2017) Dorothy Ruffin and Myrtis Ward; brother, Andrew Perry (2002), Ray Perry (2010), Percy Kennedy, Willie Earl Kennedy and James Kennedy; grandsons, Tommy Jr. Deonta Perry (2010), Ervin West (2012), Sterling Johnson (2013), Calvin Thompson (2017) and Duane Coleman (2017); as well as step-grandson, Adreann Brown (2007) and step-granddaughter, Glenda Brown (2015); mother, Choicie Perry (1980); father, Gus Kennedy (1979); grandparents, Rufus and Lula (York) Perry; aunts, Minnie Pearl McBounds (1964) and Ozella Harris (1998); special cousins, Mildred Perry (1989), Odee Perry (2002), L.C. Sparkman, Mary (Charlie Mae) Vance (2012), Alice Bracy (2013), Lula Mae Williams (2009); and nephew-in-law, Arnold Smiley Sr. (2005). The Family of Cora Williams would like to thank her longtime physician Dr. Linval Fleetwood, M.D., McLaren Hospice, and the entire staff of Willowbrook Manor for their excellent care of our loved one. We would also like to thank Rev. and Lady Rushing and the True Light Missionary Baptist Church family for their unconditional love and support during these trying times.
