Cora Turner

TURNER, Mrs. Cora Lee - Age 73, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11AM Friday, June 23, 2006 at First Union Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor Archie Powell, Jr. officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Friday. Mrs. Turner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mrs. Cora Lee Turner was born February 11, 1933 in Bolivar, Tennessee the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ora (Pearl) Hudson. She attended school in McNairy County, Tennessee and professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar, Tennessee. In 1956, Cora relocated to Flint, Michigan where she worked for a lawyer as Housekeeper for a couple of years. She then met and married Jimmie Turner. Cora served as a Teacher's Aide and President of the P.T.A. at Cook Academy for several years. In the community Cora assisted in many capacities. She was a faithful member of First Union Baptist Church where she loved the choir and sang as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Turner had 6 children but was a mother to many. Mrs. Cora Lee Turner leaves to cherish her memory: loving husband of 43 years, Jimmie Turner, Sr.; 3 daughters, Sherry, Michelle, and Teresa Turner, all of Flint; 2 sons, Jimmie, Jr. and Daniel Turner both of Flint; 11 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Tee Willie (Lonell) Cobb of Fairborn, OH and Mrs. Pearl Hannah of Flint; 5 brothers, Homer (Myrtle) Hudson of Memphis, TN, Omer Hudson of Jackson, TN, Willie Hudson of Selmer, TN, Curtis and Joe Hudson of Flint; 2 foster brothers, Bobby and James West of Milwaukee, WI; 2 aunts; 1 uncle; 3 sisters-in-law, Maccen and Billie Hudson both of Flint, Mary Nell Hudson of Selmer, TN; Goddaughter, Connie Washington of Flint; Godson, Herman Smith, Jr. of Dayton, OH; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Mrs. Cora Lee Turner was preceded in death by her son, Byron Turner; parents, Ora and Pearl Hudson; 6 brothers, Claudie, Prentiss, Howard, Clinton, Sander Lee, Robert Lewis; foster brother, Willie Hudson. The family would like to express its deepest appreciation for the kindness, love and prayers extended to the family by friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and the community, extra special thanks to 9 East Nurses and the Staff at Hurley Medical Center, Oncology Unit, Rehabilitation, and Radiology Department.
