STEWARD, Mr. Columbus - age 61, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Rev. Wallace Hill officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Steward will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Mr. Columbus Steward was born November 3, 1952 in Pine Bluff, AR, the son of Mr. Leonard C. Steward and the late Melzena Brown. Columbus definitely made a name for himself in his early years throughout the St. John Street neighborhood. He graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1971 and within this same year Columbus started a family and began his career at General Motors Flint truck and bus assembly plant. There he earned his journeyman’s card and went on to use his skill at Pontiac Validation Center ultimately deciding after 31 plus years of dedication to retire from GM Warren Tech Center. As a child he was lead to worship with his late mother Melzena Brown at Morning Star Baptist Church. As an adult he found a new church family at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where he attended regularly. Mr. Columbus Steward leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Tajuana Steward-Elam, and Shamonica Porterfield; 3 sons, Marcus Green, Columbus Steward Jr., and Curtis (Tiffany) Steward; step son, Adrian Junior; 12 grandchildren, Marquetta Bennett, Beinville Alexander II, Alaina Elam, Tracy Elam II, Anthony Steward, Ra’Dreeka Gillespie, Ja’Meeka Green, La’Neeka Green, Marcus Green Jr., Alaya Steward, Zavier Steward, and Adrian Junior; 2 great grandchildren, Zyiar Alexander, and Ayden Alexander; 2 sisters, Sharon (Bill) Frierson, and Chandra (James) Boyd; 3 brothers, Ronald (Pam) Steward of Georgia, Roy (Brenda) Steward, and Kenneth (Stephanie) Steward; 4 step-sisters, Christine Murphy, Belinda Johnson, Fiesta (Terry) Cooper, and Helen (Anthony) Maxwell; 3 aunts, Edna Hughes, Bernice (Larry) Davis, and Minnezell Vincent; 2 uncles, Roosevelt Wise, and Otis (Leona) Wise of Canada; son-in-law, Tracy Elam; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Charles Thompson, Sandra Martin, Rosemary Hollingman, Terri McMullen, the late Leilonie Cooper and Tonya Battle. Mr. Columbus Steward was preceded in death by: his mother, Melzena Brown; step-father, Chris Brown; grandmother, Maggie Wise “Big Moma” Phillips; brother, Harvey Steward; 3 uncles, Sam Steward, Curtis and Andrew Wise; 2 great aunts, Lucy Winston, and Marie Richardson; nephew, Terrance Gardner; cousins, Sterling Jones, Timothy Chatman, Carolyn Steward, Darrel and Andrew Wise Jr., and Sonny. The family would like to express special thanks to Goffery Wise, each church and Pastor including Antioch Baptist Church Reverend Randolph.
