Mr. Clovester "Kingfish" Baber

BABER, Mr. Clovester - Age 82, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 11:00 AM Monday, August 7, 2017 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 502 Leith St., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM, Pastor Daniel Moore Sr., officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Monday. Mr. Baber will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM with family present from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday. Mr. Clovester “King Fish” Baber was born April 18, 1935 in Winston County, Mississippi, the son of Rev. James Harmon and Millie (Yarbrough) Baber. Clovester accepted Christ at a young age, growing up as a member of St. Luke Baptist Church in Ackerman, MS. He attended Ackerman High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. On June 17th, 1957, he married the love of his life Flora Mae Cork. Clovester and Flora moved to Flint, Michigan and united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Unto to the union of Clovester and Flora there were three children born. Clovester believed in the word of God, and he raised his family to always put God first. His favorite scripture was Proverbs 22:6 King James Version (KJV) “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” “King Fish” worked for General Motors in various plants for 30 years, retiring from Chevrolet Truck and Bus, a division of General Motors, and was a member of UAW Local #598. He was a family man, who loved encouraging and nurturing everybody. Clovester also enjoyed learning new things, spending time up north with his family and traveling to Mississippi and Louisiana to visit his grandchildren. You could always find him setting on the front porch or relaxing in his recliner chair watching football, or one of his favorite shows “The First 48 HRS”. Mr. Clovester “King Fish” Baber was leaves to cherish in his memory: wife of 60 years, Flora Mae Baber; loving and devoted children, Felecia (Rev. Joe Daniel) Shumaker of Starkville, MS, Charlene (Pablo) Guerrero of Flint and Cletus (Tiffney) Baber of Lake Charles, LA; 4 grandchildren, Danielle Shumaker of Starkville, MS, Gerald Lynn Artis, Nathanial Baber & Ivan Baber; great granddaughter, Amaya Artis all of Lake Charles, LA; brother in-law, Wallace Brown of Chicago, IL; sister in-law, Helen Baber; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Baber was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James Harmon and Millie Baber; brothers, R.D. Baber and Herman Baber Jr.; 3 sisters, Maudie Bauswell, Hattye Brown and Barbara J. Carr. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Regional Medical Center, Pastor Daniel Moore and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church family.
