Mrs. Cleo Fern Lewis

LEWIS, Mrs. Cleo Fern - age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Lewis may be viewed 10 a.m. the day of service only. Mrs. Lewis departed this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her residence. She began her earthly journey on August 2, 1928, the oldest sibling of four children born to Mr. & Mrs. Cornelius and Sirrilla (Ogburn) Miller. Cleo grew up in her birthplace, Hope, Arkansas and attended Blevins Training School at Blevins, Arkansas graduating with the “Class of 1948.” After moving her residency to Flint, Michigan, Mrs. Lewis united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Ushers’ Ministry and became a lifetime member. She will always be remembered for her unique, calm and quiet nature, as well as her compassionate and generous spirit. Cleo retired from Genesee County Youth Detention Center after many years of faithful service. Mrs. Lewis leaves to cherish her memory: 1 brother, J.W. (Nina) Miller of Grand Blanc, MI; 1 sister, Leomy Stewart-Rambo of Wichita, KS; 3 grandsons, Tacumba Britt, Joey McAlister and Frank Smith; 2 great-granddaughters; 4 nieces, Donna (Howard) McNeal of Grand Blanc, MI, Shelia (Rodney) Graham of Flint, Renee Matthews of Virginia and Carol Johnson of Wichita, KS; 5 nephews, Glen (Rhonda) Miller of Phoenix, AZ, Cornelius Miller and Sherry of Flint, Gary (Shelly) McPhearson of Wichita, KS, Frank (Virginia) McPhearson of Indianapolis, IN, Daryl and Jewel Miller Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; “family-like friends,” Patricia (Roger) Marshall, Occie Credit and Susie Lee Johnson; special friends, James Elbert, Paula Love, Mayme Cleveland, Dorothy Kennedy, Evelyn Neal, Denise Wilson-Mennifee, the Mt. Olive Missionary Church family and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred Lewis; parents, Mr. Cornelius and Sirrilla Miller; son, Frank James Smith; and brother, Jewel Miller.
