Mother Cleo Horne

HORNE, Mother Cleo - age 93 passed away, Friday, August 22, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at New Heaven Missionary Baptist Church, 3184 W. Pierson Rd. with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Rev. Frederick Wilkes officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Mother Horne will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Mother Cleo (Montgomery) Horne was born April 11, 1921 in Lexington, Mississippi. The daughter of James and Jeanette (Redmond) Montgomery. She was a resident of Flint, MI and was a member of New Heaven Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the mother’s board, Pastor’s Aid, the nurse’s guild, sing in the Choir and Kitchen Committee. Mother Cleo was employed briefly at Chrysler plant in Detroit, MI and Exclusive Cleaners in Flint. She was also a licensed Foster Care Parent and cared for many children. Her hobbies was cooking, serving, gardening and anything affiliated with the church or her family. Mother Cleo Horne leaves to cherish her memory; 2 daughter, Lisa Horne and Tanya Horne of Flint; 4 sons, Michael Horne, Timothy Horne and Sean Verdun of Flint and Marvin (Mary) Horne of Carriere, MS.; 4 step children, Author N. Horne, Leonard Horne, Jr., Linnie M. Horne and Gladys Horne-Hildreth.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews including Willie B. (Lillie) Wilkes, Odessa (Henry) Bilal, Alean (Bernard) Gibbs, Christine (Hosea) Hobson and LaVelle Moore.; special cousin, Marie Montgomery; sister-in-law, Jennie Lee Horne; brother-in-law, R.C. Williams. Mother Cleo Horne was preceded in death by; husband, Leonard Horne; son, Freeman Horne; parents, James and Jeanette Montgomery; brothers, James T. Montgomery, Sam Montgomery and Odell Horne; sisters, Mildred (Samuel) Wilkes, Geneva (Earl) Barnes, Larlene Williams, Irene Martin, Vanessa (Charles) James and Alice Montgomery.
