Mother Cleo Burton

BURTON, Mother Cleo - age 99, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at New Creation Church of God, 3472 Lennon Rd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Dr. Herbert L. Banks officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mother Burton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday. Mother Cleo Burton was born March 9, 1915 in Enondale, Mississippi, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Malinda Thornton. Mother Burton was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Lewis Randolph. Mother Burton enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, quilting and sewing. She loved cooking dinners and spending time with her family especially special holidays like the family’s annual Christmas breakfast. Mother Cleo Burton leaves to cherish her memory; nine grandchildren, Linda Jones, Angel Clark, Shajuan Walker, Leonard Copeland, Anthony Golden, Cleon Golden, Kenneth (Kenya) Golden, Sheldon Golden and Torri Burton; 20 great- grandchildren, Julia (Brandon) Stout, Gregory Humphrey, Deja Golden, Anthony Clark, Zion Clark, Christopher Clark, Torri Burton Jr., Tyen Burton, Zahmir, Kiara, Maya, Pam, Kenyata, Kendra, Raymond, Sholonda and Keke Golden, Brenda, Leonard Jr. and Montreal Copeland; great-great-grandchildren, Jalen Reinbert, Ava Humphrey, Brooklyn and Hayden Stout and many more; a host of nieces and nephews including, Shirley (Charles) Winfrey, Shelia Williams, David (Patricia) Burton, Grady Burton, Dwayde Burton and Corretta Lee. Mother Burton was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon James W. Burton; daughter, Brenda Joyce Golden; son, James Lamar Burton; great-granddaughter, Zyariah Golden. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Edward Gomez, Ms. Mary Conway, thank you for the love and compassion you demonstrated during the care for my grandmother on the nights that I was working. I will never be able to express my gratitude. I never had to worry about her while she was in your care. Once again thank you and I love you! Linda.
