Mr. Claudius Gibson

GIBSON, Mr. Claudius - age 78, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Supt. Birdies J. Shields officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Gibson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Claudius Gibson was born July 16, 1934 in Charleston, Mississippi, the son of C.L. and Lura Gibson. Claudius was a resident of Flint for the last two years with his daughter and attended Sadie Mission Baptist Church. He was born and raised in Mississippi. Claudius graduated from Mound Bayou High School, “Class of 1953.” He attended Alcorn University, where he received his Bachelor degree in Industrial Arts. Claudius also received a full scholarship in music. He worked for the City of Houston at the Houston Housing Authority for 8 years. Claudius had a passion for the highway, he loved traveling that road. He also enjoyed working and never met a stranger. Claudius was always willing to help those in need and kept a smile on his face through good and bad times. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Earnestine Gibson of Houston, TX; 4 children, Joyce Gibson-White, Lee Gibson, Barbara (Timothy) Gibson-Robertson and Denise Parks; 3 stepchildren, Joy Tharpe, Robert Tharpe and James Kyler; grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Sade, Sel’a, Kwan’tavians, La’Darius, Ma’Zara, TeKisa, Zjhanese, Tenisha, Lee Jr., KaTisha and Claudius; 2 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; niece, Chanelle Gibson; nephew, Jeffery Gibson, both of Jackson, MS; aunt, Glennie M. Houston; cousin, Ethel Terry; 3 sisters-in-law, Teresa Lister, Lorrine Tate and Phyllis Broughton; 2 brothers-in-law, Eric and Keith Ivy; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, son-in-law, Timothy Robertson Sr., Essie Galmore and Robert Johnson. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. and Lura Gibson; brother, Reon Gibson and twin brother, Clifford Gibson.
