HARRIS, Mother Claudia Mae - Age 91, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Thursday, January 11, 2024, at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Alfred J. Harris Jr., Host Pastor, Elder Veotis Jones, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Thursday. Mother Harris will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mother Claudia Mae Harris was born June 24, 1932 in Flora, Mississippi, the youngest child of Grafton and Margretta (Thompson) Evans. Mother Harris accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member at Good Hope Baptist Church where she enjoyed praise and worship activities. She attended school in Madison County and married her childhood sweetheart, Hazle Harris in 1949. Their union brought for 6 children, 2 daughters and 4 sons. Claudia was a mother figure to many of her children and grandchildren’s friends. Many enjoyed her sweet spirit and loving demeanor. She and Hazle moved their family to Flint, Michigan in 1968. Mother Harris became an active member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church under the direction of Bishop Odis A. Floyd. She was promoted to the Mother’s Board in 2005, after serving many years on the Kitchen Committee. Mother Harris thoroughly enjoyed her time serving the Lord and was a living testimony to those who placed their trust in God. She worked in the private sector as a housekeeper until her retirement in 2000. Mother Harris enjoyed cooking, particularly baking cakes, water aerobics and spending time with her family. Mother Claudia Mae Harris leaves to cherish her memory: son, Toby Harris; daughter, Margaret Davis; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Evans Harris, all of Flint; 5 grandchildren, Corey (Natasha) Feimster of Flint Twp., MI, TranQuella Feimster of Mt. Morris, MI, Michelle (Lawrence) Harris Williams of Parkville, MD, Danielle Harris of Chicago, IL and Tiffany (Joseph) Harris-Pyland of Davison, MI; step-grandchildren, Chilisa Butler, JaQwon Jackson and Laquanda Jackson; 6 great-grandchildren, Michael Avery, Porscha Avery, all of Flint, Correna Feimster of Huston, TX, Nija Feimster of Flint Twp., MI, Ethan Williams and Seth Williams, both of Parkville, MD; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Macie Avery, Sa’Ryah Avery, Royalty Avery, Allen Litsey and Jordyn Spiller, all of Flint; special cousin, Sylvester (Joann) Lewis of Flora, MS; special friend, Willoby Ewing; nephew, Jesse Smith, both of Chicago, IL; niece, Agnes Sutton of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Hazle Harris; daughter, Gloria Conner; sons, Melvin Harris, Darrell Harris and Cecil Harris; grandson, Kendrick Conner; parents, Grafton and Margretta Evans; sisters, Essie McGee; and brother, Algie Evans.
