Mrs. Christine Sereada Cuba

CUBA, Mrs. Christine S. (Sawyer) - Age 86, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing 11 a.m. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Cuba will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Christine S. (Sawyer) Cuba was born May 22, 1927 in Rison, Arkansas, the daughter of the late David and Tennessee (Cheeks) Sawyer. Christine was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, since 1950 and loved her Pastor. She worked in the Kitchen ministry and was an excellent cook. Christine was a very free spirited, God-loving person who had an unconditional love for everyone. She also loved bowling, traveling, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Christine attended Rolling School of Cleveland County Arkansas. She worked at Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity for over 12 years where she was also a cook; and was a member of Foxy Ladies and Dough Girls Bowling Leagues. Christine leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 63 years, Henderson “Cubie” Cuba; 5 sons, Robert, Terry, Maurice, Lindsay and Clark Kent Cuba, all of Flint; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Everline (Danny) Knight; 2 brothers, Earl (Bobbie) Sawyer and Alex (Sharon) Sawyer; brothers-in-law, Howard (Bernice) Cuba of Flint, MI, Sidney (Brenda) Cuba of Rison, AR and Leo Monroe of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Georgia Chapman of Dolton, IL; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cuba was preceded in death by two sons, Calvin David Sawyer and Johnny Ray Cuba; daughter, Susie Cuba; granddaughter, Calyonda Heller; parents, David and Tennessee (Cheeks) Sawyer; brothers, Lindsay, Samuel, and John Sawyer; two sisters, Mary Ann Jones and Stella Sawyer. The family would like to express special thanks to all of the guardian angels that were God sent especially Tonya Chinkeefatt, Doris Williams, Lawrence E. Moon and staff, Pastor Lewis Randolph and the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Family; and a special prayer for his angel, Patty Sue (Williams) Coker family.
