Christella Griffin

GRIFFIN, Ms. Christella - Age 76, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at Genesys Health Park. Family hour 10:30AM Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church, 3020 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Dr. Henry L. Fuller, Jr., officiating. Dr. J.S. Hopkins host pastor. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Tuesday. Ms. Griffin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Ms. Christella Griffin was born November 17, 1931 in Flora, Mississippi, the daughter of Yank Griffin and Etta Love. Ms. Griffin accepted Christ at an early age. In 1965 she relocated to Flint and became a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, Senior Choir and later on Mother’s Board. She worked at the Holiday Inn and was also a foster grandparent. Christella enjoyed cooking and watching soap operas. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sisters, Lennie Thomas of Flora, MS and Annie Mae Callum of Flint; brother, Rev. J.S. Hopkins of Flint; 9 nieces, Etta (George) Haywood, Arlinda Hopkins, Hatty Hopkins, all of Flint, Diane (Parker) Cooper, Ida (MC) Williams, Christella (Calvin), Linda (Charles) Brown, Etta Jean (Earnest) Marshall and Annie Curtis, all of Flora, MS; 12 nephews, Michael (Paulette) Thompson, Dennis Hopkins of Flint, Rev. John (Lean) Curtis, Eugene Curtis, Johnny Frank Curtis, Miller (Ethel) Curtis, James (Sabrina) Curtis, Michael Curtis, J.B. Thomas, Oscar Charles Thomas, William (Vera) Curtis, JW Curtis, all of Flora, MS; brother-in-law, Miller Curtis; a host of other relatives and friends including special nephew, Malik Harris, and friends, Katie Martin, Barbara Johnson, Eleanor Harris and Harry Harris. Ms. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, Yank Griffin and Etta Love; sister, Everda; brother, James; and sister-in-law, Lureatha Hopkins.
