Ms. Christa Elaine Mixon

MIXON, Ms. Christa Elaine - Age 64, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2019 at First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1226 Beach St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Ezra Tillman officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. Ms. Mixon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. The Sweet Chariot swung low and carried Ms. Christa Elaine Mixon home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 1, 2019. Elaine, as she was affectionately called by her family and closest friends, was born in Flint, Michigan on April 5, 1955 to Booker T. and Pecolia (Conway) Mixon. Elaine was a proud product of Flint Community Schools, graduating from Flint Southwestern High School in 1974, and going on to work for General Motors, The University of Michigan-Flint and Flint Community Schools. She was a faithful, lifelong member of First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church where she accepted Christ, was baptized and served in various ministries, such as The Nurses Guild, The Youth and Inspirational Choirs and The Kitchen Committee. Elaine was very creative, lending her time and talents to helping others in any way she could. She loved bowling, playing softball, sewing, shopping, traveling, reading, playing cards, having long conversations on the telephone, planning family gatherings and beating her son in dominoes. She also loved to cook, eat and feed people. She was community and civic-minded, serving on the Southside Reunion Committee and as the “no-nonsense” Secretary of the Hasselbring Senior Center Executive Board. Whenever you saw her, she would have “that smile” along with warm words of encouragement. Ms. Christa Elaine Mixon leaves to cherish and carry her memory: son, LaDarriss Mixon; sisters, Helen Raynor, Carolyn Jean Mixon, Eunita (Seeber) Mixon-Wingfield, Sharon Mixon, of Flint, Evelyn Fay Mixon of Silver Spring, MD, and Nikita (Kenneth) Franklin of Shelby Township, MI; aunts, Eula Conway and Hattie Clark of Flint and Mae Mixon of Ozan, AR; uncles, Mitchell (Martha) Conway, George Conway and Sherman Perkins of Flint; nieces, Cassondra Crowder of Baltimore, MD and Catrina Crowder and Saundra Lynn Mixon of Flint; nephews, Reese Mixon of Silver Spring, MD, Jonah Mixon-Webster of Lansing, MI, Blake Franklin and Dominic Franklin of Shelby Township, MI; great nieces, Jasmine Crowder of Flint, Myteah Crowder of Baltimore, MD, Tiara Burns of Fort Wayne, IN and Tiesha Burns of Kansas City, KS; great nephews, Denairio Crowder of Baltimore, MD, Joseph Darnell Burns of Las Vegas, NV, Aaron Crowder-Epps and JaTavion Haymer-of Flint; great great niece, Labrea Burns of Kansas City, KS. Christa is also loved and missed by: “Road Dogs”, Doris Keels, Deborah Conway-Patrick and Haroldean Conway; “Special Angel”, Little KaMya Keels; numerous other family members, including the Conway, Keels, Perkins and Baker families; “Bonus Sister”, Shelley Reaves Thorn; Godchildren, Timothus and DeDarius Blackamore, Lakia Cannon, Tequila Fair, Jordan Nelson-Fair, Andrea Manuel, Jerome Sims and Tyrone Sims. “Sister-Friends”, Beverly Lewis, Joann Tucker and Belinda Manuel; “Brother-Friend”, Lewis (Tuffy) Harvey and many, many more Special Friends. Ms. Christa Elaine Mixon was preceded in death by parents: Booker T. and Pecolia (Conway) Mixon; sisters, Beatrice Crowder and Rosemary Mixon; grandparents, Mitchell and Everlee Conway, Reese Mixon and Leola Warren; Niece, Tomisha Mixon Burns; and several aunts and uncles. The family would like to extend special thanks to Pastor Ezra Tillman and the First Trinity Church family, Lincare Medical Equipment staff and caregiver, KeyKey Phillips.
