SHORT, Mr. Charlie - Age 50, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008 at St. Mary's in Saginaw, MI. Family hour 12Noon Monday, August 25, 2008 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 1PM. Eld. John Thornton officiating. Bishop Odis. A. Floyd pastor. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Monday. Mr. Short will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Mr. Charlie Floyd Short was born January 18, 1958, in Flint, MI to Charlie F. Short, Sr. and Bessie M. Short, the second child of five children, and was fondly known by family and friends as “Sonny.” Charlie grew up in Flint, MI and was a 1976 graduate of Flint Central High School. After graduating from high school, he was employed by General Motors at Fisher Body #1 in Flint. Charlie continued his automotive employment at Delphi Corporation retiring after some 26 years of service. Charlie was united in holy matrimony to Cheryl Short, residing together in Indianapolis, IN and finally settling in Saginaw, MI in a home he specially selected for them and where he spent countless hours on home improvement projects and maintaining his beautiful lawn. They enjoyed many years of love, plenty laughter, fun-filled family gatherings, and excursions in his customized van. Charlie was a devoted and loving family man. He was always helping others regardless of the need and was especially attentive to his mom. Charlie believed tremendously in everyone following their dreams. His motto was “nothing beats a failure but a try.” Charlie had a zest for life. He especially enjoyed “hanging” with family and friends, cracking jokes, talking trash, traveling, and meeting new people. Charlie was also an avid all-around Michigan team sports fan – whether they were winning or losing. He collected and proudly wore his favorite teams’ jerseys, hats, and tee shirts to publicly show his tremendous team spirit. Charlie was a dapper dresser and had a special fondness for shoes. He was a collector and enjoyed preparing scrapbooks to memorialize his travels. He made sure that he found unique drinking glasses and key chains to reflect places he had been. On August 18, 2008, our Lord and Savior saw fit to call him from labor to reward. He leaves in God’s care, the love of his life, his loving and devoted wife and partner Cheryl Short of 15 years; children and their families, Corey and Casey Short of Flint and Tanisha (Brian) Perkins-Autry of Saginaw; four grandchildren, Courtney, Corey Jr., Coreyente, and Carter Short of Flint; mother, Bessie M. Short; three sisters, Cherrie Grant, Michelle Short, and Meggan Overstreet, and one brother, Cammie (Jackie) Short; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; Aunts Florence, Rosetta, Janice, Peggy, Brenda Reeves and Bessie Williams of Flint, Lillian Terrel of Memphis, TN; Aunt Patricia Mayo of Saginaw; two uncles, John and Roy Reeves of Flint, and a host of out-of-town aunts and uncles too numerous to name; life-long brothers—special friends Kevin Swift, Richard McMillian, Bruce Brown, Asa Jones, Jerome Adams, Allan Seales, and many others; all of his special cousins; sisters-in-law, Danon (Dean) Goodrum-Garland and Roslynn (Rev. Bobby) Goodrum-Banks, Jr. and brothers-in-law, Ivory (Janet) Goodrum, Jr. and Willie (Heather) Goodrum. Charlie was preceded in death by his father; brother, Dana Lenn Short; grandmothers, Elnora Reeves and Bessie A. Short; father and mother-in-law, Ivory (Gloria) Goodrum; and a host of aunts and uncles, Deliah, Bobby and Carrlis Reeves and Mildred, Dorothy, Evalee Short.
