Mr. Charlie James Mitchell

MITCHELL, Mr. Charlie James - Age 78, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10AM Monday, July 30, 2018 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Monday. Mr. Mitchell will lie in state in the chapel and may be viewed 10AM - 6PM Sunday, with family present to receive friends from 4PM - 6PM. Mr. Charlie James Mitchell was born February 29, 1940 in Leslie, Georgia, the son of the late Rev. James “Jim” and Susie Mae Mitchell. He departed this life on July 20, 2018. Charlie attended Sumter County Schools in Leslie, GA. He accepted Christ at a very young age and began praying and singing for the Lord at the tender age of 4 at County Line Baptist Church. Charlie moved to Flint, Michigan in 1966 and worked for General Motors Corporation for a number of years. He was a faithful member at Miracle Baptist Church until his health began to fail. Charlie continued his love for singing and sang with various Gospel Quartet Groups including the popular Golden Tones. He enjoyed family, friends and singing the Lord’s praises. Mr. Charlie James Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory: 5 daughters, Cynthia (Solomon) Chipp of Tampa, FL, Cathryn Mitchell of Holly, MI, Patsy McCaskey, Kimberly (Jesse) Carpenter, all of Flint and LaQualla Dozier of Indianapolis, IN; 2 sons, Ignatius (Karol) Mitchell of Detroit, MI and Jimmie Mitchell of Flint; grandchildren, Katrina (Michael) Oliver, Kevin (Leticia) Campbell, Latonya Campbell, all of Tampa, FL, Michael (Courtney) Johnson of San Diego, CA, Nakisha Johnson of Houston, TX, Bianca (Robert) Cheatham, Ignatius Mitchell, Jr., all of Detroit, MI, Tiffany Henson of Flint, Deandre (Andrea) Adams of Swartz Creek, MI, Victoria (Robert) Burton-Harris of Grosse Pointe, MI, DeAngelo Colen, Jamie Colen, Sharrod Colen, Brandyn Carpenter, Cameryn Carpenter, Jesse Carpenter, all of Flint, Lakeyo Plair, Lakeya Plair, Lakeyan Plair all of Indianapolis, IN, Dairisha Colen of Fort Wayne, IN, LaCrystal Plair of Flint, Wynter Mitchell of Warren, OH and LaQuentin Plair of Sacramento, CA; sister, Catherine Fletcher of Americus, GA; mother of his children, Essie Mitchell; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives including special friends, Pam Younger, Brenda Blackwell-Hickman and Climmie Blackwell. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Plair; parents, Rev. James “Jim” and Susie Mae Mitchell; sisters, Hattie Wilson and Bertha Lassiter; and brothers, A.J. Mitchell and Timothy Mitchell. The family would like to express special thanks to Kith Haven Nursing Facility staff, Hurley Medical Center ICU staff, Dr. Patel and McLaren-Flint ICU staff, Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle family and Pam Younger.
