Mr. Charles Clifford Williams, Sr.

WILLIAMS, Mr. Charles Clifford Sr. - Age 91, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 2101 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Gerald Cardwell Host Pastor, Rev. Stanley U. Sims officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Friday. Mr. Williams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to receive friends. Mr. Charles Clifford Williams, Sr. was born November 16, 1924 in Flint, Michigan, the son of John L. and Eunice (Elder) Williams. After graduation from Central High School, “Class of 1943” Charles served in the United States Army from August 6, 1943 to January 11, 1946 where he was Honorably Discharged, After serving in the military; he began his career with General Motors. After 4 years of service with GM, he went to work for the State of Michigan as a Social Worker advancing to Supervisor then to Deputy Director and retiring as Director of the Department of Social Services. Charles was a quiet man of strong character and beliefs. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1940 and joined Quinn Chapel AME Church where he served as an Altar Boy. Charles was a dedicated and devout member serving on the Usher Board, Class Leaders Council, Trustee Board and Finance Committee. He also was named Quinn Chapel Man of the Year 2015. Charles was united in marriage to Charlotte L. Smith on July 26, 1946; they would have celebrated 70 years on July 26, 2016. Surviving and left to carry his legacy are devoted wife of 69 years: Charlotte L.; three children, Charlita L. Walker of Burton, MI; Charles (Cecelia) Williams of Grand Blanc, MI and Cathryn Sanders of Flint; daughter of the heart, Jenni Dones of Owosso, MI; six grandchildren, Charles “Mike” (Patrese) Williams, Stefani (Byron) Odendahl, Jennifer (Cameron) Marshall, Tammie (Otis) Watson, Donald “J.R.” Stevenson and Samuel (Shawntel) Torns; 14 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; special childhood friends, Annalea Bannister, Barbara Parker, William Dones, Boyd West and many other relatives and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eunice (Elder) Williams; brother, John; sisters, Mable James, Ann Burns, Juanita Wofford and Thelma Crowell.
