WILLIAMS, Mr. Charles Everette “Jumbo” - Age 78, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center, after an extended illness. Family hour 9 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 10 a.m., Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 9 a.m. Monday. Mr. Williams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Charles Everette Williams was born January 14, 1931 in Jackson, Tennessee. He currently resided in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Prior to him going home he gave his life to the Lord with family at his bedside as a member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church. He graduated from Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee. He married his high school sweetheart on September 20, 1950 in Jackson, Tennessee. After which he moved to Flint, Michigan where he was employed at Buick for 32 years and retired in 1987. He worked for the Flint Public Schools at (Stewart Elementary) in the early 60’s. Charles also retired as Valley Christian School Security for numerous Bingo Halls in 2005. He was an avid sports player of softball, basketball and football, which he earned the nickname “Jumbo” from his uncle. Charles was a hardworking, strong, loving, and gentle family man. He loved his family and was deeply devoted to his wife Sarah of 59 years and his mother whom he took care of until her death. Charles lived his life to the fullest always ready to give you advice and counseled you if you were headed in the wrong direction. He loved traveling, eating sweets, watching sports on TV, fixing things around the house and working in his yard until his illness. He leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife, Sarah L. Williams; 3 daughters, Cassandra K. Thomas, Mala R. Williams and Pamela L. Williams of Grand Blanc, MI; son, Charles E. Williams, Jr. of Flint; 3 grandchildren, Charles Murray Williams, Rashawnda (Timothy) Littles of Grand Blanc, MI and Razette Williams of Flint; 8 great-grandchildren, Bionca “Binky” Thompson, Tyra Jones, Meilike Stewart, Shard’e “Dae-Dae” Thompson of Flint, Daronte Williams of Milwaukee, WI, Alonzo Williams of Ohio and Zakireiah Gray of Grand Blanc, MI; sister, Sara Williams of Douglasville, GA; step sister, Lutricia (Elmore) of Decatur, GA; aunt, C.D. Exum of Jackson, TN; step mother, Deola Wallace of Decatur, GA; brother-In-law, Ben (Mary) Powell of Mt. Morris, MI; sisters-in-law, Mattie Smith and Francis Stinnett of Detroit, MI; special cousins, Walter (Vester)Exum, Jr. and LarCuia (David) Conley of Jackson, TN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive; special daughters, Betty Gray, Sherry Stewart and Cecilia Rutherford; special sons, Bobbie Roberts and Larry Smith. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Cora Williams, father(s), John Wallace and Willie Williams; grandson, Michael Alonzo Thompson; brothers-in-law, David Williams and Clifton Smith; and sister, Mary Tynes.
