SIMPSON, Mr. Charles O. - Age 60, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, July 15, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Saturday. Mr. Simpson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Charles Otha Simpson was born July 16, 1962 in Leland, Mississippi, the son of the late Henry and Bertha Simpson Jr. Charles moved from Mississippi at the age of 5 and was a resident of Flint, Michigan until God called him home on July 1, 2023. Charles accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. Charles attended Flint Northwestern Highschool and was previously employed at Premier Packaging. Charles has several nicknames including; Simp, Charlie, and Payne which he was known for in the streets because he applied a lot of pressure from a young boy until adulthood. Charles was small but mighty and he didn't take no mess from nobody. Charles loved his family and friends and would protect them by any means necessary. Charles loved all of his children, biological and adopted, however Charles took CharQuan under his wing and taught him everything he knew about sports and becoming a young man. Charles did everything he could possibly do to put a smile on his children's face. His children meant the world to him and he would go broke trying to get them what they asked for, especially his girls. Charles was a very avid sports fan. Growing up as a young boy, Charles was one of the baddest wrestlers around. He won an Olympic Gold Medal for wrestling. Charles also had a love for basketball and football. Charles' favorite basketball team was the Milwaukee Bucks and his favorite football team was Kansas City Chiefs. Charles and his sister Barbara would sit and play his football game for hours but Charles would always come out with the winning team. Charles and his sister Barbara had an unbreakable bond. They would argue like cats and dogs, fight each other and fight outsiders but no matter what, they would never let anyone come between them. Charles and Barbara was very close and were each other's right hand man however Charles was overprotective over both of his sisters. As Charles grew older, he looked up to Barbara and her husband David as a mother and father figure. Charles loved his family and friends dearly and respected all who respected him. Charles leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons, Javion Miller and CharQuan Simpson; 2 daughters, Solana Simpson and Kimana Simpson, all of Flint, MI; 2 step-daughters, Bianka Lockridge and Janisha Sweet; 2 step-sons, Dewan Bell and Trevon Bell, all of Flint, MI; 8 step-grandchildren, Harlem Fields, Jamylen Campbell, Harmony Bell, Janiya Gillard, Dewan Bell III, Blessing Bell, Zanobia Bell and Avante Bell Jr., all of Flint, MI; brother, Walter Jordan of Flint, MI; 2 sisters, Vondella Flynn, of Flint, MI and Barbara Scott (David), of Mt. Morris MI; 11 nephews, Robert Jordan, Lamar Jordan, Quatrail Williams, Anthony Williams, Curry Brickey, Stanley White, Frederick Snowden, Demetrius Snowden, Yakima Williams, Deontae Brown and special nephew, Cortez Flynn; 5 nieces, Veronica Jordan, Surrunda Brickey, Kambre Bown, Lakeisha Simpson and special niece RaShunda Simpson; a host of cousins including special cousins, Henry Daniels, Dawanda Hawkins, and Juanita Simpson; god-father, Jimmie Garrett; special friends, Shirley Snowden, Simone Cook, Monique Pugh, Lynita Sweet, Sara Carr, Freddie McCloud, Anthony Beaugard, Sherry McCain, Tamara Crowder and Rodney Porter. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Jr. and Bertha Simpson; brothers, LeRoy Simpson, Freddie Simpson and Eugene Simpson; nephews, Davidian Simpson and David Scott Jr.; step-son, Avante Bell; and daughter, LaTesha Taylor.
