MARTIN, JR., Mr. Charles - Age 85, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Rev. Loretta Reed Matthews, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Martin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed Tuesday during family hour only. Mr. Charles Martin Jr. affectionately known as “June” by his family was born December 20, 1927, to the late Charles Martin Sr. & Rev. Martha V. Reed. On October 11, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center, Charles was transported to “a city whose architect and builder is God.” He was brought up in the fear of the Lord and baptized at an early age. Charles was a master mechanic and could repair anything on wheels and appliances. He retired from General Motors in 1989. He married the late Lillie M. Evans in 1948 and to this union 6 children were born. He also fathered four additional children. Mr. Charles Martin, Jr. “June” leaves to celebrate his life: 4 daughters, Carletta Sisson of Chicago, IL, Denise Hairston of Huntersville, NC, Deborah Pride of Stockton, CA and Angela Martin of St. Louis, MO; 2 sisters, Rev. Loretta Reed-Matthews (Bishop E. Holmes) of Nashville, TN and Lucille R. (Robert) Willis of Memphis, TN; 4 sons, Eric (Thomasine) Martin of Flint, MI, Anthony Martin of St. Louis, MO, Virgil and Steven Shad, both of California; 2 nephews, Joel O. Townsend and Wayne C. Harrold; niece, Edythe “Sue” Townsend; longtime companion, Blanch “Linda” Gibson and her children, Andrea Jordon, Derrick Jordon, Denise “Betty” Scott, Calvin, DeWayne (Ulvonka) Gibson, Shronda Gibson and Mattie Worthy. He was also the father figure to his former wife’s children, Anne Holmes Davis, Francis Holmes, Doris Andrews, Levesteen Ronald Lorech, Christine Andrews, Rose Andrews and Sarah Andrews. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his former wife, Erma; 2 daughters, Donna and Carolyn; son, Jeffrey; sister, Dorothy Harrold; 2 brothers, Dan and Sam Reed.
