Mr. Charles Lamar Laury

LAURY, Mr. Charles Lamar - Age 81, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mr. Laury will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Mr. Charles Lamar Laury was born March 15, 1943 in Raymond, Mississippi, the third child born to the late Willie Sr. and Rose Ann (Bolden) Laury. Although he fought like a champ, he gained his heavenly wings surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, mentor and friend to many. He was the Patriarch of his family and knew no strangers. Charles had a strong work ethic and demanded professionalism wherever he went. Charles loved talking on the C.B. Radio and “Bumper Jack” and teaching life lessons to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He valued education and played an active part in being involved in his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. Charles was a permanent fixture at their school and their outside activities. He was their biggest cheerleader. Charles graduated from Summer Hill High School in Clinton, MS on May 23, 1962. To provide a better life for his growing family, he moved to Flint, Michigan in 1967. He started his career in the automotive industry as a Line Worker for General Motors Corporation on September 11, 1967. Charles later attended Charles Stewart Mott Community College and earned an Associate Degree in Management. He was quickly promoted to Foreman. After 36.6 years, he retired from General Motors on March 31, 2004. He stayed busy in his retirement. Charles traveled, spent quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visited family/friends and spent time at Hasselbring Senior Center schooling people in chess and checkers. Charles was preceded in death also by his grandson, Joshua D. Hudson; siblings, Robert C. Bolden, Janice Laury, Anthony D. Laury Sr., Ella Laury McChristian and Howard Laury. Mr. Charles Lamar Laury leaves to cherish his precious memory: wife of 61 years, Ruth T. Laury; 3 children, Vickie (Nestor) Ouedraogo, Evaett Laury an Darrin Laury, all of Flint; 6 grandchildren, Evaett (Joey) Edwards, Travesha Jackson, Tiara Laury, Iyanna Webb, Taniya Laury and very special grandson, Davis Ouedraogo; 2 great-grandchildren, Lyric Avery and Lanai Welch; special nieces, Velvet Riddley of Clinton, MS and Lila (Jeff) Funderburg of Chicago, IL; 3 sisters, Georgia (Frankie) Funchess of Raymond, MS, Mandel (Eddie) Wilson of Miami, FL and JoAnn Vaughn of Jackson, MS; 4 brothers, Willie Laury Jr. of Flint, Vaughn Laury, Melvin (Yvonia) Laury and Kenneth Paul Laury, all of Jackson, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special family friends, Valerie Sanders Lewis and family of Flint.
