GOZA, Rev. Charles Ray - Age 65, passed Thursday, April 16, 2020 at his residence. Family Hour 10:00 AM Saturday, May 2, 2020, Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie, Flint, MI. with Service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd, Flint, MI. Rev. Goza will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. A Time To Be Born Reverend Charles Ray Goza was born July 31, 1954 in Nashville, Arkansas to the late Shillie Harold Goza and Mary Ellen (Williams) Goza. A Time For Commitment Early in life he united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Arkansas where he was active in children, youth and young adult activities. Charles suffered from asthma at a young age, often spending time inside, and as a result he learned to cook and was known for his excellent cooking, especially desserts. After being named to Arkansas All District and Arkansas All State Basketball teams he received numerous offers for college, accepting and attending Wiley College. Charles moved to Flint, Michigan where he obtained employment with Chevrolet Truck Assembly. He hired in as an hourly Production Worker and retired after 40+ years as Plant Superintendent. Charles joined the Canaan Baptist Church soon after moving to Flint and served faithfully wherever asked. He served as Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Trustee Board. Charles answered God’s call to the ministry, and served as an Associate Minister at Canaan. Charles enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, visiting family, camping and watching sports- especially with his son and grandson. A Time To Rejoice Charles married Barbara Wilson, the daughter of Millot and Ollie Mae Wilson on June 10, 1988. A Time To Die Thursday, April 16, 2020 Charles slipped away to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. A Time To Mourn Reverend Charles Ray Goza leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Barbara Goza; 4 sons, Myron (Sharonda) Goza, Keyon Menifield, Sharome Lundy, all of Flint and Quintin (Jessica) Woods, Kansas City, KS; 4 daughters, Renae (Craig) Buyck, Netta (Willie) Mitchell, Trish Crane and Shamere Lundy; brothers, Wayne (Ona Kay) Goza, all of Flint, Lora (Gwen) Goza of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Virginia Goza and Beverly Goza-Holmes, both of McKinney, TX; granddaughters, Diondra Simpson, Serenity Everett and Gabrielle Goza; grandsons, Keyon Menifield, Keyonta Menifield and Myron Goza; 4 god-children, Toy Eason, Isaac Golson, Stacy Orange and Alona Blackwell; special friends, Pastor Charles Roots, James Crump, Isaac Golson, Al Smiley, Blake Scott and Jewell Donaldson; a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and friends. Reverend Goza was preceded in death by his siblings, James Goza and Shirley Reddic. The family would like to thank Dr. Syed Sattar and the family for their care.
