Charles Evans

EVANS, Mr. Charles W. - Age 84, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., officiating. Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, G-2020 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Evans will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday. Charles was born August 5, 1925 in Nash County, North Carolina to the late Elijah “Son” and Ada (Wright) Evans. He accepted the Lord as his Savior as a young man and was baptized at the Pleasure Hill Baptist Church in Nash County. Charles married his beautiful wife, Ella Ree Richardson in 1948, and relocated to Flint, in 1954. He united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, and served as a member of the Progressive Laymen’s until his health began to fail him. Charles worked at Fisher Body Division in Grand Blanc, Michigan, a division of General Motors Corporation and retired after thirty-seven years of dedicated service. Charles was a very devoted and loving husband and the most generous, giving person as a father. He would always want to give a person what they wanted and needed. If ever he gave someone a token, he would say, “It’s from my heart” and never looked for anything in return. Charles William Evans had a heart of gold. He loved his family with all his heart and wouldn’t let his siblings forget that! He cherished family gatherings and just knew he could beat all the fellows on the Bar-b-que grill. Lastly, he loved his “dogs” and took the best of care of them until he could no longer do so. Charles leaves to cherish sweet memories: his wife of 61 years, Ella Ree (Richardson) Evans; one daughter, Sarita (Evans) and her husband, Jeron A. Marble; 2 grandchildren, Phoenix K. Marble and Jeron A. Marble, Jr., of Dimondale, MI; 2 sisters, Ruby McWilliams of Flint and Daisy Buckner of Grand Blanc, MI; 4 brothers, Alex (Bessie Jo) Evans and Derick Evans, both of Grand Blanc, MI, Ben (Beatrice) Evans of Enfield, NC and Roger (Rachel) Evans of Maplewood, NJ; one aunt, Dorothy Avent of Whitakers, NC; 3 sisters-in-law, Sadie Spearman of Baltimore, MD, Julia “Maxine” Evans and Minister Adelaide Evans, both of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special cousin, Henry Wright; many other relatives and dear friends survive. Charles was preceded in death by parents; grandparents, parents-in-law, Emanuel (Nettie) Richardson; 3 brothers, Percy, Edmond and John Evans; sisters-in-law, Flossie Person, Olla Harvey, Lille McWilliams and Bessie Rae Evans; brothers-in-law, Tommie and Oliver Richardson and Dea. Leslie McWilliams.
