ESSETT, Mr. Charles - Age 61, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009 at his residence. Family hour 10AM Monday, June 15, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM, Eld. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Monday. Mr. Essett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Mr. Charles “Chuck” Essett was born January 29, 1948 in Oak Ridge, Louisiana, the son of Elbert and Francis Essett. “Chuck” was employed at Douglas Aircraft and Cascade Car Wash in Los Angeles, California before moving to Flint in 1973. After arriving in Flint, he was employed at General Motors, retiring in 1999 after 25½ years of service and was a member of UAW Local #599. “Chuck” was united in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Beene on May 10, 2003. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports (watching basketball and football), gardening and traveling. “Chuck” was a sharp dresser and loved nice cars. He was also unique and always about his business. Mr. Charles “Chuck” Essett leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Shirley Essett; 4 daughters, Keyra, Lisa, Sheleah and Katira Essett; son, Ontais Essett; 2 step-sons, James Beene and Horatio Brown, Jr.; 5 grandchildren, Quotesha and Danicka Southall, Kerria Essett, Janiya Scoiners, Jacoby Matthews, all of Flint; 2 sisters, Eva Essett of Indianapolis, IN, JoMary Essett of Houston, TX; brother, Elbert Essett of Indianapolis, IN; a host of nieces, including Becky (Leonard) Essett, Hope (Kenny) Hooks; a host of nephews including Michael (Karen) Essett, Charles, Jeffery and Bryant Essett; 6 aunts; 7 uncles; 9 sisters-in-law, Thelma, Juanita and Loretta Price, Rita (Perry) Smith, Theresa Beene, Patricia (Bobby) Tolliver, Jacqueline and Venetta Beene, Audricka (Michael) Beene; 2 brothers-in-law, Allen (Yolanda) Beene, Lawrence Price; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends, including special friends, Jack, Warren, Lincoln and Maurice. Mr. Essett was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Brenda Williams; brothers, Cliff, Willie, Steve and Bobby; host of nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Rosetta Beene; friends and many more family members.
