BARNES, Mr. Charles Ray - Age 83, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Hospice of Shiawassee Co. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, December 6, 2019 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM., Pastor Louis C. Knox Sr., Eulogist and Pastor Robert E. Chambers, Presiding. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Barnes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday. Charles Ray Barnes, at the age of 83 of Flint, Michigan, life expired at The Hospice House of Shiawassee County surrounded by his family on November 27, 2019. Charles was born September 8, 1936 in Taylorsville, Mississippi, the son of Sane Barnes and Beulah Blackwell. He was the oldest of 15 siblings. Charles was a Construction Worker for C.J. Rogers Company for over 25 years in Flint, Michigan. He retired in the mid 90’s. Charles became an entrepreneur after retiring. He sold seafood from the south (Gulfport, MS) to the north (Flint, MI) for over 25 years. This was his passion, selling saltwater fish, shrimp and oysters. Many knew him as the Seafood Man in the Flint and surrounding areas. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. He loved all types of western movies, “Gunsmoke” being his favorite. Charles had a deep love for cars. He received his first vehicle at the age of 14. Charles was always there to help relatives and friend with whatever people needed him for. He always wanted to see everyone happy. Charles Ray Barnes leaves to cherish his memory: 8 daughters, Brenda Kay (Robert) Chambers of Flint, Dorothy Jean McLaurin of Gulfport, MS, Jackie (Jessie) Davis of Cross City, FL, Verdia Valentine of Flint, Lucretia (Carlis) Oden, Lucinda (Lee) Towner, all of Nashville, TN, Florence Jenkins and Jacqueline Fanette Barnes, both of Flint; 2 sons, Terry Edward (Mary) Barksdale of Mt. Holley and NJ, Johnny Ray Barnes of Flint; grandchildren, Jarvis Curtis, Deon Harper, Tommie C. Wallace, Jeffery L. Barnes, James A. Younger, Tearria S. Wallace, Chiquita Younger, Lakeisha Hamm, James D. Clark, Justin Anderson, Veatrice Sanders, Alvin B. Jenkins, Keosha Ross, Kameisha Wallace-Arnold, Shameka Barnes-Wilson, Cynthia Harper, Samuel Morgan Jr., Shambraychia Cook, Tanisha Johnson, Christian Johnson, Antonio Johnson, Denise Grimes-Thomas, Denisha Ross, A’isha Ross, Tadaysha Barnes, Tara Morgan, Charles Barnes, Wayne Grimes Jr., Andrea Barnes, Selena Sheppherd, Keosha Cross, Kejuan Wallace, Quenna Chambers-Brown, Michael Byrd, Robert Chambers Jr. and Olivia Barksdale; 85 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lessie Bee (Johnny Ray) Edison Ruth Clark (David), all of Taylorville, MS, Pearl (Matthew) Walker of Gulfport, MS, Leonard (Darrell) Barnes, Billy Ray (Juanita) Barnes, all of Taylorville, MS and George (Rochelle) Barnes of Oregon UT; a host of other relatives and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Carrie Mae Barnes; children, Ray Charles Barnes and Charles Edward Barnes; grandchildren, Shantil M. Barnes and Stallone Long; parents, Sane Barnes and Beulah Blackwell; siblings, Tal Davis Blackwell, Lynn Blackwell, Mary Helen Lee, Lessie Mae Barnes, Alene Barnes, Allie McGowan, Eddie Buster Barnes, Billy Joe Barnes, Leonard Turner and Rita Duckworth. The family would like to give special thanks to McLaren-Flint/Select Specialty, Regency at Grand Blanc and The Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
