BANKS, Mr. Charles W., Sr. - Age 69, passed away Friday, October 21, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, October 28, 2005 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00AM. Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Banks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00PM-8:00PM Thursday. Mr. Charles W. Banks Sr., was born January 1, 1936 in England, Arkansas to the late William and Mintlean Banks. His childhood was spent in Cornerstone, Arkansas, where he was baptized at an early age. He attended Arkansas AM& N College, now known as the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, prior to relocating to Chicago, IL where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1970, he moved his family to Flint, MI and worked for several years at Home & Suburban Realty, and eventually retired with 15 years of service with the State of Michigan Department of Corrections. Charles Sr., was a great man of character. He could often be found sitting in his chair reading, watching sports or on the telephone sharing a laugh with family and friends. He loved his family and looked forward to Sunday dinners and holidays with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. Charles Sr., leaves to cherish his precious memories; a faithful and devoted wife of 48 years, Bernice Banks; 4 children, Cathy Johnson of Pine Bluff, AR, Charles (Gloria) Banks Jr., of Flushing, MI, Carl Banks of Watchung, NJ, and Bankston Banks of Mt Morris, MI; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Catherine (Green) Wedlow, Bobbie (Clarence) Flowers, and Betty Banks of Flint, Eddie McCord of Grand Rapids, and Arlene (Johnnie ) Collins of Nashville, TN; 2 brothers, W.T. (Audrey) Banks, and Donner (Mildred) Banks of Flint; brother and sisters-in-laws, J. D. and Narvell Irby, Johnnie and Verlee Moore Sr., and Jesse Waters all of AR, Emmanuel and Shirley Taylor, Luke Kimbrough of Chicago,IL; uncle, Robert Banks of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including Vergie, Jean, and Ruth of Pasadena, CA, and Pat Burton of Flint; special friends, Rose Langley, Frank Bell, Clint Davis, Clark Lawrence, Willie Martin, Connie Wilson and Mose Lacy. Mr. Charles W. Banks, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mintlean Banks; brother, Mack Banks. We will miss his physical presence but he leaves a legacy of love, self-reliance and moral character that will always be remembered.
