WALKER, Ms. Charlene - age 50, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at University of Michigan Hospital-Ann Arbor, MI. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Elder Isiah Pettway officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Ms. Walker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Ms. Charlene Walker was born on July 22, 1964 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Yvonne Walker and Billy Wilson. Charlene graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1982 and continued her studies at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Charlene worked as a substance abuse counselor at the Intake Referral and Assessment Center (IRAC) and helped many people on their road to recovery. An avid reader, Charlene enjoyed books, traveling, sewing and crafts. Charlene was a constant source of joy and laughter to her loved ones. Affectionately known to her family as “Char,” she could always be counted on to support those she loved. Char’s favorite scripture was the 13th Chapter of 1st Corinthians, an appropriate choice as Char’s personality paralleled the description of love found in those verses. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” Fittingly, Char was surrounded by love as she transitioned from this life on October 4, 2014. Ms. Charlene Walker leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Billy Wilson; 2 sisters, Carmen Jessop and Sharon Woodward; 2 brothers, Jodyonne (Katrina), and Michael Walker; 2 nephews, Jalen and Bryce Walker; 4 aunts, Carolyn Walker, Elizabeth (Houston) Willingham, Gwendolyn (Henry) Gaines and Jackie (Maurice) Fielder; 3 uncles, Anthony and Terry Walker, and W.C. Majett; a host of cousins, relatives and friends including dear friend, Evelyn Parker. Ms. Charlene Walker was preceded in death by: her mother, Yvonne Walker; grandmother, Charlie Mae Walker; and great-grandmother, Elizabeth Jones. The family would like to give special appreciation to the staff of Hurley Medical Center and the University of Michigan Health System Critical Care Unit.
