Mr. Champ Sims

SIMS, Mr. Champ - Age 80, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at his residence. Family hour 1:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 2120 Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM, Pastor Keith J. Bigelow Sr., officiating. Interment, Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 Dort Hwy, Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 1:00 PM, Saturday. Mr. SIms will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00PM-8:00 PM on Friday. Mr. Champ Sims was born November 11, 1936 in Livingston, Alabama, the son of Mr. Isaac and Mrs. Pearlie Sims. During his life’s journey, he relocated to Flint, Michigan where he found employment with the General Motors Corporation. He was a trusted and faithful charter member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where he served on their Deacon Board. Champ Sims enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Champ Sims leaves to cherish 4 daughters, Pearlie Sims, Annie Sims, Glenda Sims and Twynette Watson, Flint; 4 sons, Calvin Sims, Flint, Benjamin Sims of Edgewater, AL, Kellar Lacey and James Bell, Flint; special son-in-laws, Larry Smith and Lorenzo Avery, Flint; 2 brothers, Moses Sims Sr. of Gary, IN and Calvin Sims, Flint; 2 sisters-n-law, Mamie Sims of Gary, In and Ernestine Sims, Flint; sixteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; 3 children in love, Donna Anderson, Tommy Moore and Stacey Watson; a host of other relatives and special friends including, Linda Carter-Edwards, Dwight Jackson and the mother of his children, Betty Flowers-Sims. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Pearlie Sims; 3 sisters, Lillian“Dolly” Knight, Estelle Hudson, Lucy Thedford; 6 brothers, Williams Sims, Isaac Sims, Willie Sims, Roosevelt Sims, Henry Sims and London Sims. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Keith J. Sr. and First Lady Francoise Bigelow and Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Ira G. Edwards, Sr. and Damascus Holy Life Baptist Church, R&C Dialysis and McLaren Hospice Care “Nurse Nora”.
