HUGHES, Mr. Cedric J.- Age 35, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1PM Friday, November 6, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2PM. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1PM Friday. Mr. Hughes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Thursday. Mr. Cedric J. Hughes was born September 12, 1974 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Kathleen Hughes and Jimmie Garrett. Cedric was a resident of Flint and attended Flint Community Schools. He was once employed as a School Crossing Guard for the City of Flint. Cedric’s hobbies and interest included cooking large dinners, listening to music and buying and selling cars. He was very helpful and dependable to many, if he was able despite his life long battle with Sickle Cell. Cedric enjoyed each and everyday laughing, and joking with his family and friends. He also enjoyed each and every moment to the fullest that he spent with his children. Mr. Cedric J. Hughes leaves to cherish his memory: former wife, Shalonda Hughes; 2 daughters, Shantoria Burnom, Santageah Conway; son, Cedric J. Hughes, Jr.; father, Jimmie Garrett; step-mothers, Barbara Garrett and Kay Garrett; grandparents, Dessie and Charlie Hughes and Sadie Webster; extended grandmother, Eula Conway; 7 sister, Dorothy, Monique, Shannon, Tiara, LaVonya, Jasmine and Kourtnie; 3 brothers, Jimmie “Roni” Garrett, Markus Hughes and Jimmie Garrett III; 4 nieces; 7 nephews; 9 aunts, Deborah Hughes; Vera Webster-Gamble, Karen Webster; Kimberly (Eddie) Purnell, Lessie Caudle, Alma Jones, Cassandra Webster, Ronda (Tommy) Carr and Minnie Armstrong; 7 uncles, Garland “Bo” Jones, Steven Hughes, Charles Hughes, Sr. Victor (Merica) Webster, Kerry (Lavinya) Webster, Grady McHenry and Jermaine Webster; a host of cousins, including special cousin, Wardell “Corky” Hodo; a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends, Jerone Cooper, McDaniel Boose and Lamont Smith. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Hughes; brothers, Donyell Hughes and Tireo Hodo; grandfather, Lewis W. Webster; 2 aunts, Beverly Hughes and Mattie Garrett and a host of childhood friends whom also fought the Sickle Cell battle.
