WILSON, Mrs. Catherine - Age 84, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with Homegoing service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor Mark A. Jones, Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Wilson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Monday with family present from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Catherine Hollis Wilson was born October 31, 1926 in Holly Ridge, Mississippi the youngest of three daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. George (Mary Burt) Hollis. The Hollis Family moved to Memphis, TN where Catherine united with Salem-Gilfield Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. L. McCargo. In 1950, she married Clarence Wilson and to this union two daughters, Sheila and Rhonda were born. Catherine moved to Flint, MI in 1958 and united with Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in 1959, under the leadership of Pastor Alfred L.C. Robbs and moved with him to Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Catherine was a member of the Voices of Christ Fellowship Choir, Sunday School Class #10, attended Tuesday Evening Bible Class and worked in the church nursery for many years. She was employed by the Flint Board of Education, retiring in 2000. Catherine was a wonderful mother, a very caring person, who was loved by all. She truly loved people and enjoyed working with children. Mrs. Wilson was a second mother to many (especially her children’s friends) and was affectionately known as “Aunt Cat.” Catherine had several hobbies, including bowling, cooking, shopping and watching games shows. Mrs. Catherine Hollis Wilson leaves in God’s care: two loving and devoted daughters, Sheila of Flint and Rhonda of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Thelma Robinson of Chicago, IL; 1 niece; 3 nephews; grandmother of daughters, Mrs. Walker Lee Chapman; many other friends and the Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church family. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Hollis; sister, Georgia Tappan; and nephew, Ollie Baker, Jr. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church family and caregiver, Rhoda Clark.
