JOHNSON-SMITH, Mrs. Catherine "Cat" - Age 73, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Saints of God Church, 528 W. Pierson Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Johnson-Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Catherine Hardy Smith fondly known as (“Cat”) was born January 26, 1940 in Maplesville, Alabama. She was the third daughter of the late Chester and Ida Bell (Talley) Hardy Sr. Catherine accepted Christ as her Savior with Friendship Baptist Church in Aniston, Alabama. Her family relocated to Flint Michigan in 1956. Catherine graduated from Flint Northern High School. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Willie Johnson, and to this union born one daughter and two sons, Belinda Johnson Ryan, Derrick Johnson and Stacey Johnson. Catherine became employed with Winchester Hospital and later with Flint Metal Fabricating, a division of General Motors, where she worked diligently for 30 years before retirement. Catherine had recently become a faithful member of Saints of God Church, where she served on the Nurses and Hospitality Ministry until her illness prohibited her from participating. Prior to this Catherine was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. While at Antioch Catherine served on the Hospitality Guild. Upon her many hobbies she enjoyed studying God’s Word, gardening, traveling, golfing and bowling. Prior to her illness Catherine was an active member of the 24 Carat and Fairway Ladies Golfing Leagues, Gray Power and Jolly Fun Seniors Bowling League, Big Sisters Organization and the Flint Majestic Red Hat Society Chapter of Flint, Michigan. Catherine will be remembered for her stylish dress and fashionable hats! But above all "Cat" loved serving the Lord! She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: loving husband, Richard L. Smith; one daughter, Belinda (Larry) Ryan of Atlanta, GA; four sons, Derrick Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Stacey (Julia) Johnson of Lansing, MI, Troy Smith of Richmond, VA, and Tyrone Smith of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, Tiffanie C. Johnson of Seattle, WA, Christopher and Taylor Ryan of Atlanta, GA, Vincent Cokley of Lansing, MI, and Marcelos Smith of San Antonio, TX; great granddaughter, Alicia Smith of San Antonio, TX; three sisters, Samuel Mae Gray, Susie B. Brown and Earnestine (Jesse) Brown; brother, Chester Hardy Jr., all of Flint; five sisters-in-laws, Bettye (Wilbert) Aikens of San Leandro, CA, Evelyn and Renee Smith, both of Oakland, CA, Bonita Smith and Tomeka (Matt) Kimber of Pascagoula, MS; brother-in-law, Cedric Smith of Afghanistan; three nieces, Tracy Brown, Monica Pointer, and TaQuita Malloy of Flint; four nephews, Mansel Pointer of Flint, Tyreese (Donna) Pointer of Lexington, KY, Phillip Pointer of Fairfax, CA, and LaZerick (Michelle)Hill of Flint; a host of cousins, other relatives and too many friends to mention. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Ida Bell Hardy; and special niece, Stephanie Brown. The family would like to express a special thanks to Fannie Barfield, Frances Duncan, Kathleen Etherly, Kathy McGaughy, Mary Brady, Ruth Ann Riley, David Phinisee, Pastor Alfred L.
