JOHNSON, Dea. Carter - Age 82, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, November 10, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Cedric Nickson, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Friday. Deacon Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Deacon Carter Johnson was born July 15, 1941, in Tamo, Arkansas. He was the 13th child of the late William and Henrietta Johnson Charles. He was baptized at a young age and raised by his late stepfather Edgar Charles. He departed this life on October 27, 2023. He attended Vassar High School in Tamo. Upon graduation, he moved to Benton, Arkansas where he worked at a furniture company. In 1962, he moved to Flint, MI, and was employed at Fisher Body in Grand Blanc, MI. He was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #16. In 1965, he married his wife Pearlie Adams and to this union were born three children. Deacon Carter Johnson was a prominent community service leader and dedicated his life to helping others. He loved hunting, fishing, barbecuing, and spending time with friends and family. He once played baseball and basketball and is fondly remembered for his love of watching sports: baseball, football, and basketball. Deacon Carter Johnson leaves to cherish his sweet memories, wife of 58 years, Pearlie M. Johnson, daughter, Robbie Johnson (Van Buren Twp., MI), son, Kerry Johnson (Flint, MI), granddaughter, Eysis Johnson (Charleston, South Carolina), grandsons, Keshaun Johnson (Van Buren Twp., MI), Kerry “K.J.” Johnson, Jr (Mt. Morris, MI), Malik Johnson (Memphis, TN), Damien “Dada” Whatley (Washington, D.C.), two great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Vengalee Johnson (Charleston, S.C.), sister-in-law, Gloria Colen (Flint, MI), Katie Denton (Marianna, AR), brother-in-law, Charlie C. Adams (Haywood, CA), Freddie Adams (Emma) (Pine Bluff, AR), brother-in-law, Juliet Fair (Richmond, CA), sister-in-law Shirley Adams (Jacksonville, FL), and numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Charles Nichols, Andrew Blacknode, Herb Gulledge, David Williams, Fred Taylor, Allen Ridgway, and Eddie Booth, and many relatives and friends that loved him dearly. Deacon Johnson was preceded in death by son, Stevie Johnson (October 27, 2013), and his father, mother, stepfather, six sisters Florine Walls, Sarah Spicer, Ruby Buie, Minnie Hill, Jettie B. Cantlow, Maxine Lattimore, six brothers William, Tommie, James, David, Jacob, and Miles Johnson, and a host of sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
