Ms. Carolyn Jean Dent

DENT, Ms. Carolyn Jean - Age 77, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Ms. Dent will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Carolyn Jean Wright Dent made her heavenly transition on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. She was born February 14, 1938, in Flint, the daughter of Aline Williams Wright and Jerrold Douglas Wright. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved most spending time with her family and friends. Carolyn had a deep faith in our Lord and served at her church actively. She attended Flint Public Schools, attending Emerson Junior High and graduating from Flint Northern High School “Class of 1956.” After graduation, Carolyn got her first job with the City of Flint Water Department when her beautiful handwriting was noticed on her application. She retired from the Finance Department in April 1993. Education and the pursuit of knowledge was something she sought and encouraged in others. She continued to matriculate at Mott Community College and the University of Michigan-Flint, where she graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies in 1979. Inspired by their mother’s example, over the next five years both of her sons graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. Her love of travel took her all over this country, Mexico and Latin American, and Europe. Carolyn's creativity knew no bounds. She loved to sew and completed many custom projects for family and friends that they will cherish forever. Carolyn could be depended upon to organize great outings and creative tournaments (like UNO) for many friends and relatives. She loved music and played the piano for her grandchildren. Carolyn worshiped at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she served for over 20 years. She was very charitable and always ready to help those in need. Carolyn was a caring aunt and spent countless hours with her nephew, Kurt. Mrs. Carolyn Jean Wright Dent leaves to cherish her two sons, Bryan (Judi) Dent, Sterling Heights, MI and Jeffrey (Honey Lett) Dent, Sr, of San Antonio, TX; 7 grandchildren, Jordan, Alisha, Adrian, Jeffrey Jr., Ariel, William and Zoe; 3 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joseph Kendall; 2 uncles, Edwin (Sadie) Wright and Edwin Quinn; 5 nieces, April Wright of Maryland, Karlene Wells, Higi Jones, Jacqueline Turner Banks, Lynn Wells, all of California and Marcia Boone; 10 nephews, David Wright of Maryland, Daryl Wright of Boston, Kurt Kendall, Kyle Kendall, Clayton Turner, Gerald Turner, William Turner, Spencer Turner, Rolande Stanley and Tyrone Stanley; a host of other relatives and friends including, the Group of Six and special friends, Marilyn Sams, Joan Baldwin and Felicia Dent. Mrs. Dent was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Dent; parents, Jerrold and Aline Wright; step-mother, Gladys Wright; grandmother, Napoleon Busby; sister, Norma J. Kendall; brother, Dr. Douglas Wright; and her dear friend, Willie Hodge. Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her. As a tribute to her giving spirit, do a good deed in Carolyn’s memory, visit a shut-in, contribute a gift to a college student, listen to a child, or smile at a stranger.
