Mrs. Caroline Blackmon

BLACKMON, Mrs. Caroline - Age 81, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 1258 E. Humphrey Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Terry Randolph officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Blackmon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday. Mother Caroline (Pyles) Blackmon was born on September 11, 1935 to the late Major and Florence Fowler Pyles in Lake Providence, Louisiana. She was the 4th born of 5 children. She accepted Christ in 1953 and was united with China Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Providence, LA. She attended Magnolia High School in Pioneer, LA and graduated in 1954. Mother Blackmon was a faithful member of the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church since 1987, under the leadership of Rev. B.T. Anderson and is now under the leadership of Pastor Terry Randolph. Mother Blackmon served as President of the Nurses’ Ministry and she also served on the Kitchen Ministry and the Mother’s Ministry. She was also a member of the Great Lakes Baptist District Association Nurses’ Guild and the Second Marion Anderson International Masons Easter Star, Flint, MI. She married Odessa “Dester” Blackmon on June 24, 1954 and to this union 6 children were born. Mother Caroline (Pyles) Blackmon was employed with Hurley Hospital for a short time then was the Head Cook at The Pink Garter Restaurant for many years, a cook at Paddy McGee’s and the White Horse Restaurant. Mother Blackmon loved to cook, spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, playing cards, going to the casinos, watching TV and talking with family members on the telephone, but most importantly reading her Bible. Mother Blackmon was very soft spoken, pleasant, caring and very giving. She was loved by many. Mother Caroline (Pyles) Blackmon leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Margaret (Allen) Seales and Duranda Blackmon of Lake Providence, LA; 4 sons, William, Gregory and Major Blackmon, all of Flint and Frederick (Faye) Blackmon of Grand Prairie, TX; 20 grandchildren, Omar (Tonya) Hull, Tamar, William “Shantá” Crystal, Alisha, Demario, Alexis, Jaleesa, Eric, Derek, Gerald, Jarrod, Allen “AV”, Major Jr., Stephone, DeMarcus, Shaquanda, LaQuan and Jalayiah, 28 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; father of her children, Odessa “Dester” Blackmon; sister Annie M. Pyles of Lake Providence, LA; 2 brothers, Luther (Laraine) and Major Pyles, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many love ones and friends, too many to name including her best friends, Ester Mitchell and Mary Heckard. Mother Blackmon was preceded in death by her grandson, Deonta Blackmon; parents, Major and Florence Fowler Pyles; sister, Fannie Finley; and sister-in-law, Mary L. Anthony. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center, Medical Team Hospice, Pastor Terry Randolph and the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church family, all the family and friends that expressed their love during our time of bereavement.
