Mr. Carlon Hughey Jr.

HUGHEY, Mr. Carlon Jr. - Age 67, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at his residence in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Family hour 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 17, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Flint, MI, with a memorial service commencing at 11:00 AM. Dr. Lonnie Brown, officiating. Brother Carlon Hughey, Jr., was born November 17, 1957, to Carlon Hughey Sr. and Geraldine (Coleman) Hughey. Big Carl, as many called him, was a very loving and devoted Son, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend, who always had a great big smile on his face and was filled with laughter no matter his circumstances. God created Carl to be a peacemaker and during the course of his life he has worn his calling like a badge of honor! Matthew 5:9 states, Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God! Big Carl truly Loved the Lord and always had a positive word to say during the many calls he made daily to friends and family! One of Big Carl's favorite sayings was, “SHO YOU RIGHT”! Big Carl, worked for Chevrolet Metal Fabrication Plant and the Lake Orion Plant a division of General Motors corporation before retiring and moving to his dream state, Florida! Carl had a brilliant mind Graduating from Flint Northwestern High School with high honors! During Carl’s 11th and 12th years, he carried a briefcase to class like a college professor. The courses he took in school, most would shy away from, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra 3 and 4, Calculus and Trigonometry, along with all the College Preparatory Classes offered at Flint Northwestern High School in the 70’s! Upon graduation Carl was so academically sound, he received a full paid Academic Scholarship to one of the best colleges in our Nation, University of Michigan Ann Arbor! Go Blue! Not only was Carl a gifted scholar, Carl walked onto University of Michigan’s Basketball Team! After his time at the University of Michigan, he joined the Navy as a reservist. Thankfully,he was not called into active duty, instead, like a true Michigander, he pursued a career with General Motors, until retirement! Carl’s younger days were spent in Boy Scouts until the age of 14, karate classes, and piano lessons. He learned how to play the piano by listening to three of his favorite artists, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and George Benson. However, Carl’s most enjoyable extracurricular activity was swimming! Carl became an excellent swimmer! In fact, Carl was a licensed, certified lifeguard and diver! He taught everyone who desired to learn how to swim in the family. His two sons, Lil Carl III and Torrance, are excellent swimmers as well! Torrance, his youngest son, is truly a water baby who can swim and dive as well as his Dad! Lil Carl III, his eldest, loves nature, animals and the great outdoors, just like his Dad! Also, Big Carl loved sailing on his boat, cruising on the Harley Davison, hanging with the MotorCycle Club Members and reading his Bible Daily! Big Carl, A fantastic Son, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend, leaves to cherish his memory, his most cherished possession his two Sons, Carlon Hughey III and Torrance Hughey; Grandchildren, Joshua Hughey, Justin Hughey and Elijah Hughey; Great Granddaughters, Amora Hughey and Aamira Hughey; Sisters, Jacqueline (Charles B.) Arther, Carol Hughey, and Regina (Madison) Wortham; Nieces and Nephews, Sonji (Bertrum) Brown, Donielle McReynolds, Kifaru Arther, Tomika Allen, Kiata Tolbert, Tia McReynolds, LaToi (Brandon) Journey, Shatala Coleman, Nina Coleman, Lacey Benjamin, Janai (Jeremy) Montgomery, Donald (Megan) Coleman, Torrie Wortham, Torrea Wortham, Madison (Monique) Wortham II, and Clarissa Arther and 31 great nieces and nephews. Our loved one Carl, left this life and transitioned to heaven, and he will definitely be greatly missed on this earth! However we do not sorrow like those without hope, because our hope is in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! We will see Big Carl again, that’s our promise from God. Absent from this body, when you know Christ, is to be present with the Lord! The family would like to thank everyone, especially his two Sons Carlon III and Torrance Hughey, who were very patient in getting everything together in order to honor their father’s wishes! Thank you Madison, “Tiny” Wortham for being a wonderful brother, not just a brother-in-law. Thanks to family and friends who traveled near and far to share memories and celebrate Carl’s life! We appreciate all of your contributions. Whether you sent cards, flowers, volunteered here today, or helped behind the scenes we love and appreciate you. Special Thank you to our Loving Pastor, Dr. Lonnie Brown and Lady Frances Brown for always coming through for the family!
