THOMPSON, Mr. Carl Arthur - Age 74, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, December 6, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral Service commencing at 11:00 AM, Rev. Anthony Floyd officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Thompson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. Carl Arthur Thompson was a resident of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at McLaren-Flint. Mr. Thompson was born June 14, 1950 in Amory, Mississippi, the son of the Robert Earl Sr. and Lena Mae Thompson. Carl was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint where he earned a Bachelor Degree. He worked for various organizations throughout Genesee County, committing over 40 plus years of service. Carl served in the United States Naval Reserves dedicating 15 years of service. After he retired from the Genesee County Planning Commission, Carl followed his dream of working with youth in the Genesee Intermediate School District, positioned at Randall Elementary School where he loved working with the children as a Youth Development Facilitator until his untimely death. He was a member of Triumph Ministry where he enjoyed participating in the Men’s Auxiliary. Carl was an avid Crim participant each year where he found to be very inspiring and self-rewarding. One of Carl’s favorite hobbies was playing the guitar and listening to diverse types of music genres as well as keeping up with the latest political, weather, professional and college sporting events. His favorite team was the Saint Louis Cardinals. Carl was a kind spirited individual who always put others before himself, he loved life and spending quality time with his family and fury friend, Eastside. Carl Arthur Thompson leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Sherry L. Thompson of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 sons, Tony W. (Kenyatta) George and Jeremy L. Thompson; 4 grandchildren, Tariah and Taraji George, Keyashia and Alazia Wilson, all of Flint; 2 sisters, Rachel (Randy) Ostertag of St. Louis, MO and LaWanda (Carlton) Smith of Cleveland, OH; 5 brothers, Robert Earl Thompson Jr., Henry Thompson, both of St. Louis, MO, Lester Thompson of Oklahoma, Larry (Rita) Thompson of Ann Arbor, MI and Stefan (Bonnie) Thompson of Des Moines, IA; god-daughter, Porcia Hamilton; bonus son, Chris Hawkins; brothers-in-law, Ed (Rozena) Hutchinson III of Michigan, Terrance (Trish) and Marquel Hutchinson; devoted loving cousins, Norma Fairhurst and her children, Donald, Jackie, Norman, Lisa, and Willie Jo Foote; extended family, Dr., Larry (Carol) Young and Rhonda Clark; a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Earl Sr. and Lena Mae Thompson; sister, Janice Lloyd; brother, Ivy Thompson; special relatives, Earlene and Jack Barbee; father and mother-in-law, Ed Jr. and Sharon Hutchinson. The family would like to express special thanks to the Westgate Neighborhood family, Denise Grant, Dr. Hasan and his entire cardiac team, Dr. Peddireddy, Pastor Solomon Jr. and Lady Robin Kinloch, and the entire Triumph family. Mr. Thompson was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy.
