WALTON, Elder Cardell D. "CD" - Age 82, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 a.m. at Greater New Bethel C.O.G.I.C., 925 W. Atherton Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Brian D. Grundy officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Walton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Elder Cardell “CD” Walton was born May 13, 1933 in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, the son of the late Cardell Walton and Willie Lee. He went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. “CD” attended Howard County Training School in Arkansas and from there moved to Flint, Michigan in 1955. He began working for Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant, a division of General Motors. “CD” united in marriage to the late Lillie Mae Perry and to this union 2 sons were born, the deceased Christopher Walton and Fester Walton. He also raised 3 nieces, Sharita, Brenda and Linda, and a nephew, Terry. Later in life Elder Walton united in Holy Matrimony to Bertha L. Cannon where she remained at his side until death. Elder Walton was an active member of UAW Local #659 and after 43 years of service he retired from General Motors in 1998. He loved his church and family. Elder Walton was an Associate Elder at Greater New Bethel Church Of God In Christ where he faithfully served as Superintendent of the Sunday School Department, Chairman of the Trustee Board, and the Songbird at the church where Supt. Brian D. Grundy is the Pastor. Elder Walton enjoyed praising the Lord, reading his bible, preaching, teaching, and most of all his favorite was singing. Some of his hobbies included traveling, mowing the lawn, and socializing with his Dialysis group. Elder Cardell “CD” Walton leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 21 years, Bertha L. Walton; sisters, Jerry (Theodore) Jordan of Grand Blanc, MI, Linda Ireland and Barbara Jordan, both of Flint; brothers, D.M. Walton of Clio, MI and Henry Walton of Flint; sister-in-law, Queenie Nettles of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Sharita Walton (niece/daughter) and Evelyn Cannon, both of Flint; daughter-in-law, Karen Walton of Toledo, OH; sons, Fester Walton and Terry Walton (nephew/son) and Robert Cannon; grandchildren, Chrissy Walton, Tonya Walton, Essie Rorlark, Aareana Campbell, Kareana Branch, Kayla Walton, Ashley Cannon, Jazmine Berry, Donte Walton, Johnny Walton, Sean Walton, Aaron Hudson and Robert Cannon III; with several great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special adopted mother, Missionary Ruthel Dickerson; special god-daughters, LaGreta Johnson, Linda F. Robinson, Bernadette Williams and Vivian (Walter) Jamerson; god-sons, Elder Charles (Karen) Summerville and Michael Robinson. Elder Walton was preceded in death by his parents, Cardell Walton and Willie Lee Walton; son, Christopher Walton; brothers, Freddy Walton, Ben Walton, Jr. and James Walton; sisters, Virginia McNeal, Eleandora “Eleanor” Walton and Trisha Scott; brothers-in-law, Leroy McNeal and Marcus Nettles. The family would like to express special thanks to Supt. Brian D. Grundy and the Greater New Bethel Church Of God In Christ family, EMS Rescue staff, the doctor and nursing staff at Hurley Medical Center, Davita Dialysis Center staff and Linda and LeGayle Ireland.
