Mr. Calvin Ray Sims

SIMS - Mr. Calvin Ray, age - 67, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, June 10, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Pastor Derrick Watkins, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 1:30 PM Saturday. Mr. Sims will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, June 9, 2023. Mr. Calvin Ray Sims was born August 2, 1955 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Charlie Lee and Charlene Sims. Calvin was a resident of Flint and graduated from Flint Northern High School and received his Builder’s License from Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI. He married Maria Childs on April 13, 1975, but divorced a couple years later. Calvin was employed by General Motors Corporation, then became a Self-Employed Carpenter. He loved fishing any chance that he got, watching basketball and was a huge Michigan Wolverines Fan, although he would also root for Michigan State. Calvin was always willing to take you to work and teach you something, such as how to carry yourself and how to have a work ethic. He loved all kids as if they were his own and all kids love him back. Calvin was funny but serious when times called for it. He was a great father, son, brother, cousin and friend, and was there when you needed him. Calvin will be greatly miss and will never be forgotten. Mr. Calvin Ray Sims leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters and 3 sons, Calvin Childs (Marique Graham), Charvel Sims (Kimberly), Tommy Jackson (Domanic Grubbs), Ashaley Gilleylen (Brandon) and Sharonda Jones; grandchildren, Calvin Graham, Asionna Sims, all of Flint, D’Zyre Sims of Middleton, OH, Tevin Jackson, Deanna Jackson, Ethan Woodyard, Gabrielle Gilleylen and Arielle Gilleylen, all of Flint; mother, Charlene Sims; brother, Derrick Wiley of Indianapolis, IN; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, Keyonna Wiley, Satora Wiley, Darius Wiley and Devin Wiley; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, girlfriend, Annetta Sykes; cousins, Lois Fricks, Acquanetta Wiley, all of Flint, Terrill Harrington of Seattle, WA, Shelia Jackson of Riverdale, IL and Sherry Harrington of Chicago, IL. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Lee Sims; grandparents, Romie and Hazel Wiley, Charlie and Annie Sims. The family would like to express special thanks to Jachin Baptist Church, Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and many other friends and family members for their thoughts, prayers and contributions.
