MERRIWETHER, Mrs. Callie Lee Ily - Age 75, of Flint departed this life peacefully at home Sunday, May 24, 2009 surrounded by her family and friends. Family hour 1:30PM Friday, May 29, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2PM. Private Interment will be held at a later date. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Friday. Mrs. Merriwether will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Thursday. Mrs. Callie Lee Ily (Moore) Merriwether was born December 3, 1933 in Marion, Illinois to William Lavern Moore and Mercy Eugenia Garrison. As a young girl she confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Paul’s Chapel Baptist Church in Marion, Illinois and lived her life accordingly. Callie was united in Holy Matrimony to Lyman Robert Merriwether in 1953. They moved to Flint, MI in 1956. This union produced five children. Callie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed in the capacity of Nurses Aide at both Flint Osteopathic Hospital and Hurley Medical Center, where she was also a Health Unit Coordinator and Recording Secretary for Local #1603. Callie was an avid reader who loved to travel, shop, knit and work crossword and jigsaw puzzles. After her illness she became a devoted fan o the Game Show Network and knew more answers than any of her family or friends. She leaves to cherish her memories: 5 children, Raechelle L. Whitlock, Gladys D. Merriwether, Lyman R. “Bob” (Viola) Merriwether, Jr., Gregory A. (Selina) Merriwether, all of Flint, and Douglas K. Merriwether of Charlotte, NC; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond H. Causwell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Merriwether was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lyman R. Merriwether, Sr.; great-grandson, Ramon K. Merriwether, Jr.; parents; brother, Ardell Moore; sisters, Joann Harrell and Velma Stevenson; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Merriwether. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Yaseen Hashish and the staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center, Swartz Ambulance, Helping Hands Home Health Care, McLaren Hospice and the many dear friends, especially Herbert and Ann Biggs.
