OWENS, Ms. Brenda Kay - Age 67, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:00 PM Saturday, September 16, 2023, from the Chapel Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Saturday. Ms. Owens will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Ms. Brenda Kay Owens was born May 25,1956, in Flint Michigan. The daughter of Mr. Willie Lee Owens Sr. and Mrs. Mamie Ruth (Thames) Owens. She was a lifelong resident of Flint. Michigan Brenda was only 68 years old when she gave her life back to the man up above. The family is deeply saddened by her sudden death, but we all knew she was a strong person inside out in whatever she faces in life she was a believer and a fighter. She was known to tell her children that “When people do you wrong, you don’t return wrong back to them because you will stop your blessings if you treat them the way they do you. Brenda was known for showering love to her mother, children, grandchildren, great-grands, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and all that knew her. She left a legacy of love and her personality spoke volumes. Brenda would light up the room with smiles and her dancing when she would dance. Ms. Brenda’s daily routines was getting up calling her two sisters Oda Lisa & Debra Ann Owens every day on the phone, shopping online and playing her spades and dominoes online. She loved listening to her blues station on her radio, watching sports, talking to her sisters on the phone and enjoying all her nieces and nephews’ company along with watching her favorite shows Price is Right & Let’s Make a Deal and the Stories. Brenda loved to be home and she spent most of her time with her two youngest children Tajala and NeNe Owens and grandchildren and other that came by to sit with her, but they were invisible to her when she was sitting in front of her computer playing her spades or dominoes. Ms. Brenda attended Flint Northwestern High School Class of 1974. While attending school she was always hanging with her long-life companion for 46 years Feronda Tyler & Sister Debra Owens and cousins and hanging out at the Tyler’s family home. While Hanging out she was around Terry Tyler, Sheila McChester, Carol Love, Mary Love and the rest of the Tyler’s family. Ms. Brenda was known as a beautiful Butterfly! Brenda was very compassionate and heart full of love, Brenda personality trait is courageous because she is brave through anything, and her spirit is full of much joy, and she is very affectionate and loveable to everyone she meets. Brenda’s best friends was her two sisters, Oda Lisa & Debra Ann Owens and Mary Stewart and children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, mother, brothers. Brenda is known as Cocka Dodda Do from her nephew Romero Byron aka Maine when he came around. She also loved her brothers and her God-brother Rodney Blassingame known as her other “Big Brother Blass”. She loved her special friend Mary Stewart aka another sister of mines she would say! Ms. Brenda was employed at General Motors Corporation in 1976. Brenda loved her job and providing for her children and everyone that was around her. Brenda worked at three plants, Fisher Body, a plant in Indianapolis Indiana and transported back to Michigan in Saginaw where she retired with 30+plus years. Ms. Brenda loved her family so much and she was the true meaning of the word love and legacy. Brenda loved being a daughter of Mrs. Mamie Owens and mother to her 5 children, and stepchild, Feronda Smith (Nikki ) and son-in-law, Demond Cobb and grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren and playing the roles she need to play for the nieces, nephews and the knowns and unknowns. Ms. Brenda played the role to everyone she knew as a caring loving individual and was a fun spirited soul who took on many passions in the family. Ms. Brenda loved to eat her favorite foods which was her mother cooking which her mother would prepare for her, and she loved Steaks and House salads. She loved to go out to eat with Mary and her daughter Tammara. She loved spending time over her daughter ReRe house for the lovely foods she would cook. Brenda had joined Hand of God Ministries in 2023 but upon of all things she knew who was in control of all things who created the earth. Ms. Brenda “will be remembered by her hilarious cussing quotes “I DON’T FREAKING THANK SO”! She will also be remembered by showering her mother gifts because her heart was so big. Brenda was known as to gather everyone at her home so that everyone could love on each other and have fun partying together. She loved and loved the Knowns and the Unknowns. Brenda didn’t play about any of her family at all. She is quiet until someone is messing with one of her children. She would tell her children “All of you have different personalities but you all is still crazy some of you got your daddy and some of you got me but all still crazy. Ms. Brenda Kay Owens leaves to cherish her memory: 5 children, Tammara Owens (Dedric Hendricks), Shereau Cobb Owens (Demond Sr), Shanika Owens and Tajala Owens, all of Flint: 1 step-son Feronda Smith of Flint. 12 Grandchildren, Tara Owens; Jermaine Blount Jr.; Shantia Owens; Brittney Owens; Dedric Hendricks Jr.; Demond Cobb Jr; Z’Maria Owens; Saniyah Ellison; Brandon Ellison; Za’Riyah Grady; Dorian Grady; Zy’Aire Wells aka “Boo Boo”; 1 step-grandchild Jordan Lundy. 11 Great-Grandchildren: Don Lilly Jr; J’Marrion Owens; Dontez Lilly; Jermaine Blount III; Italy Owens; Jada Blount; Jae Blount; Bryanna Owens, A’Legend Johnson; Jayce Lundy; Jordyn Lundy; mother, Mrs. Mamie Ruth Owens; 2 sisters, Debra Ann Owens (Chester Bobbit) and Oda Lisa Owens: 2 brothers, Tony Lee Owens (Vickie) Owens and Willie Lee Owens Jr., all of Flint: 9 nieces and including special nieces, Regina Owens; Krystal Owens; Shannon Owens; Vonda Brown; Twaina Kirkland; Shakeeta Kirkland; Koneisha Harvey; Natori Drake; Tomika Tyler. 12 nephews AND INCLUDING SPECIAL NEPHEWS; Anthony Byron; Prentiss Owens; Jimmy Owens; Vernon Owens; Willie Owens 111; Xavier Owens; Wyatt Owens; Charles Owens; Terrence Overton; Antwaun Tyler; Langston Tyler; Keon Lard and Dionta James. Ms. Brenda Kay Owens was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Tyler ; her 47years companion, Feronda Tyler; father, Mr Willie Lee Owens Sr. grandparents, Murrie Thames & Bonnie Mae Thames, Lee Owens & Lizzie Owens; ; sister, Theresa Owens, Brother Jimmy Lee Owens & Christopher Owens; one of the special niece Kristy Owens; special nephews, Kenneth Owens and Tony Lance Owens, Joe Kirkland and Michael causey. 3 aunts, Matilda fields and Earlean Tims; 4 uncles, Jerry Owens, Mack Tims, Rudolph Thames, Curldean Thames” curly; cousins Kenny Tims; brothers-in-law Bartow Tyler; sister-in laws Sharon Kirkland & Kimmie Tyler and common in laws Laura Drake and Carmen West. The Family would like to express special thanks to all her children and her brother Willie Owens Jr and the nurses, doctors and staff of Hurley whom gave Brenda loving care.
